Aspyr, the developer behind the recently released Tomb Raider 1-3 Remastered collection, have confirmed that a controversial change that was just made to the game will be reverted in a future update. This marks the third patch for Tomb Raider 1-3 Remastered from Aspyr, who has received a fair share of criticism regarding the handling of a number of its latest ports.

After years of demands from fans, the original trilogy of PlayStation 1 Tomb Raider games finally got some much-needed touch-ups with the release of the Tomb Raider 1-3 Remastered compilation back in February 2024. This Tomb Raider collection got mostly positive reviews from both fans and critics alike. Despite some common complaints regarding dated controls and mechanics, the remastered trilogy managed to find an audience, with it currently boasting an 86% approval rating on Steam. This doesn’t mean the release of the compilation was free of controversy, however, as fans noticed a couple of strange issues and omissions since the launch of the game. Fortunately, though, it seems like the latest “issue” with the Tomb Raider 1-3 Remastered collection is about to be resolved.

The latest Tomb Raider 1-3 Remastered update brings a surprisingly huge feature to the PlayStation 5 version of the games.

As noted by Aspyr, the Lara Croft pinup posters that were suddenly taken out of Tomb Raider 1-3 Remastered will be added back in the upcoming third patch for the collection. The company elaborated on this, stating that as part of the “several texture and graphical updates” it made to the HD version of the trilogy, it “inadvertently removed” the pinup posers from the game. This issue, however, has been fixed and “these textures will be restored in Patch 3.” Aspyr did not comment on when fans should expect the third patch for the game to release. Though, given the company released Update 2 for Tomb Raider 1-3 Remastered shortly after the compilation’s launch, it probably shouldn’t be too far away.

The Pinup Posters That Were Removed From Tomb Raider 3 Are Being Added Back to the Game

The suggestive posters in question were initially present in “Sleeping With The Fishes,” the fourth level in Tomb Raider 3. Despite being visible in the launch version of the game, Aspyr unexpectedly removed the Lara Croft posters without even mentioning it in the patch notes. This, of course, led to a lot of controversy and intense debates online whether this constituted censorship. It seems like the removal wasn’t intentional, however, so the conversation surrounding this divisive omission will likely subside.

This isn’t the only strange issue that eagle-eyed fans have noticed with this compilation, as many realized that Tomb Raider 1-3 Remastered‘s Epic Games Store version had enhancements the Steam version didn’t have at launch. The discovery of these issues comes during a strange time for Aspyr, who has been under hot water lately for the release of the critically-panned Star Wars Battlefront Classic Collection and the cancelation of promised DLC for the Switch remaster of KOTOR 2. Hopefully, Aspyr’s next release will be more like Tomb Raider 1-3 Remastered and won’t launch with significant problems.

Aspyr and Crystal Dynamics’ Tomb Raider I-III Remastered contains Lara Croft’s first three adventures, along with their expansions. The compilation revamps the games’ visuals, while also including the original polygon art style as a selectable option.
