An update to Silent Hill: Townfall has made its hardest puzzle a lot easier to complete. Silent Hill: Townfall players who have been stuck on the Remote Systems Control puzzle will likely be pleased to learn that it’s been adjusted following fan feedback.

Late-game Silent Hill: Townfall spoilers follow.

Many Silent Hill: Townfall players would likely agree that the Remote Systems Control puzzle has been extremely frustrating. The puzzle presents players with a series of buttons to press that include both symbols and numbers, and initially had no major hints in the room. To make matters worse, the puzzle isn’t the only thing that players have to contend with near the end of the game, but this update has addressed both issues.

Silent Hill: Townfall Nerfs Its Hardest Puzzle

Silent Hill: Townfall developer Screen Burn has now made good on a promise to adjust some of the biggest stopping blocks near the end of the game. Patch 1.4.0 has added a manual for the Remote Systems Control console that players can scan to get a better sense of how to operate the system, which can be viewed at the same time they’re interacting with the console. The Weight enemy, which lurks in the vicinity and elsewhere in the game, has also been adjusted. The Weight now no longer insta-kills the player when grabbing them in Story Mode or on Normal difficulty, and the enemy should no longer hang around by the objective as much. It will also repeatedly search the same area less frequently, and its tracking has been tuned so it doesn’t track the player as aggressively.

Additionally, a number of other improvements to enemy AI have been made. Enemies are less sensitive to the sound of running footsteps, guns being fired, and players entering hiding spaces. Enemies will counterattack less frequently in melee combat, players have more time to react after escaping a grapple, and standard enemies will no longer attempt to grapple the player if they’re actively blocking with a melee weapon. The sole exception to this rule is for The Weight. The game has also received a number of bug fixes, including some that were preventing progress, areas where players could break out past the boundaries of the map, and ironed out more instances of streaming stutter.

Silent Hill: Townfall‘s reviews have been pretty good since its release, though resolving some of its lingering technical issues will likely help to boost the overall impression of the game further. Getting stuck on a cryptic puzzle close to the end of the game would be frustrating in any title, but having to deal with an overwhelmingly powerful enemy made matters worse. Meanwhile, those who didn’t find The Weight or the puzzle to be overly problematic can instead choose a higher difficulty to increase the challenge for themselves, if they wish.

Silent Hill f and Silent Hill: Townfall both took some chances as new entries in the long-standing survival horror franchise. Both Silent Hill: Townfall and Silent Hill f took players back to the past, while Townfall also features first-person perspective, when third-person has been typical from the start. So far, Konami has been successful with the continuation of the series, and it will be interesting to see where it goes from here.
