It’s not every day that big-budget games like For Honor are given away by their creators and publishers. September, however, has suddenly become a lucrative month for freebie hunters, who can now add a $29.99 Ubisoft title to their libraries at no cost.
One of the last times Ubisoft’s decade-old game made headlines was when For Honor announced that it would discontinue support for Linux and Steam Deck. The decision did not sit well with many fans, some of whom struggled to understand the publisher’s reasoning. Now, For Honor is back in the spotlight, this time for a generous offer that could help boost its player base in 2026.
Ubisoft is giving away its 2017 game For Honor to PC users, with the promotion ending on September 28 at 4:30 PM. For those wondering, the giveaway is part of Ubisoft’s celebration of its 40th anniversary. Players looking to claim For Honor at no cost will need a Ubisoft account and the Ubisoft Connect app to run the game. Despite being released nearly a decade ago, For Honor has continued to remain popular among fans of games with brutal combat. The game also receives seasonal updates, while SteamDB data shows that it regularly draws more than 5,000 concurrent players on Steam alone.
On September 10, For Honor received its Year 10, Season 3 update, titled Blood Hunt. One of the most notable additions was Ranked Dominion, which allows players to compete for prestigious badges such as Grand Master. The update already had the potential to boost the game’s player count, but Ubisoft’s current promotion could make it easier for For Honor to reach a wider audience.
For those unfamiliar with For Honor, it is essentially a medieval, melee-focused multiplayer fighting game. Some might describe it as Call of Duty with swords and spears. Players can team up with up to three others for team-based battles or compete in 1v1 matches. Gamers willing to consider freebies from non-AAA studios, meanwhile, can currently claim and keep Crystal Crisis on Steam. The game will remain free until September 21, and although it is drastically different from For Honor, it is still categorized within the same “fighting game” genre.
