Looking to bring back the fixed camera angles and mutated monstrosities that defined survival horror in the 1990s, Liminal Point takes players into a terrifying tale of seeking the truth while battling against psychological terrors that blur the lines between nightmare and reality. Slated to launch exclusively for PC via Steam in 2026, Liminal Point is already drawing early comparisons to the original Resident Evil for its implementation of the mechanics that made that franchise the powerhouse that it is today.

A number of horror games inspired by Resident Evil have gone on to cement a legacy for themselves in the genre’s history, with many drawing from the key gameplay elements of the 1996 classic to draw in longtime fans while delighting first-time players. Liminal Point follows in the footsteps of its predecessors, wearing its inspirations on its sleeve, while weaving together a new story in the world of survival horror.

Capcom’s Resident Evil is the most well-known horror franchise, and fans are likely to enjoy these games.

Liminal Point Revitalizes the Classic Survival Horror of Old-School Resident Evil

Following the disappearance of her bandmate, Mira, the once-rising rockstar Lyra is drawn back to the fog-covered island where tragedy struck many years ago. As Lyra works to uncover the truth behind what really happened to Mira on that fateful night, it soon becomes clear that the loss of her dear friend is not the only nightmare haunting the forlorn musician. Players will need to guide Lyra through a spine-chilling experience shrouded in cryptic messages, horrific creatures, and surrealistic psychological challenges that will push Lyra to her limits. Similar to other classic survival horror games, Liminal Point tests players’ ability to balance limited inventory and tense encounters while navigating through an isometric world showcased through retro fixed camera angles, offering a fresh jaunt through the landmark elements of old-school horror.

In addition to the familiar gameplay mechanics reminiscent of other games like Resident Evil, Liminal Point also provides an intriguing mystery that will require players to piece together the layered story of tragedy and memory by exploring crumbling mansions, infested hospitals, abandoned sewers, and foggy streets a la Silent Hill. Dynamic lighting and a chilling soundtrack further immerse players into the secretive horror and costly truth of Liminal Point.

An impressive variety of new survival horror games have drawn inspiration from retro titles like Resident Evil, Silent Hill, and even Fatal Frame, with many utilizing classic genre mechanics to bring an old-school vibe to the newest era of gaming. Horror fans can follow along for any updates on a potential release date for Liminal Point and more news on the latest indie and AAA horror games coming to PC and consoles.
