The full release of V Rising introduced many major changes to the game’s core progression, including the way in which magical spells are obtained. Stunlock Studios opted for a more flexible unlock system that allows players to pick and choose which spells they want to get based on what type of spell points they currently have.

Now that choice is involved when it comes to unlocking spells, players might think that they need to be careful with what they choose to get after fighting V Rising’s bosses. However, the game does offer a way to reset spell points, allowing everyone to freely experiment with the abilities they unlock so they can find the build that works best for them.

How To Respec in V Rising

Respec screen in V Rising

The only thing you need in order to respec is an Altar of Recollection. This used to be the Altar of Blood from the early access version of the game. Now, it’s been repurposed to be used as a respec station for those who want to experiment with spell loadouts in V Rising.

The Altar of Recollection is unlocked fairly early in the game. Just keep doing the quest steps outlined in the upper-right corner of the screen, and you’ll eventually unlock this crafting station for yourself. To build one, you’ll need 180 Stone and 10 Blood Essence. The exact costs for these materials may change depending on the settings of your current V Rising server.

Once you’ve built your Altar of Recollection, interact with it to open a menu showing all the available schools of magic. Pick the school you’d like to respec points in, then press the Reset School button. This costs absolutely nothing, and you can do it as many times as you’d like. Do keep in mind that you won’t be able to spend your refunded points on other schools of magic.

Previously, there was little need for a respec feature in V Rising. Beating bosses like Gorecrusher or the Ferocious Bear would unlock specific vampire spells for the player. Now, all spells (not to be confused with Vampiric Powers) are unlocked by spending spell points. Advanced spells are locked behind the game’s progression wall, and players will need to reach certain gear scores or beat specific bosses in order to unlock the other abilities.

Players will eventually reach a point where they’ve unlocked all the spells, essentially removing the need to respec.
