Popular Twitch streamer Valkyrae has addressed rumors about her retiring from content creation. Valkyrae has been in the streaming space for over a decade now, making her mark on both Twitch and YouTube Gaming, which is why many fans were worried about her allegedly leaving everything behind.

Rachell Hoffstetter, known to many as Valkyrae (Rae for short), is known for playing video games on stream, ranging from competitive FPS games like Valorant to deduction titles like Among Us. Her most recent gaming stream was Resident Evil Requiem, which gathered thousands of viewers on Twitch and YouTube to watch her play as Grace Ashcroft and Leon S. Kennedy. Over the course of her career, Valkyrae has gained over 1.4 million followers on Twitch and over 4 million subscribers on YouTube, was named 100 Thieves co-owner, and started her own media company called Hihi Studios, among many other accomplishments.

Valkyrae Retirement Rumors Explained

Recently, a rumor went viral online that Valkyrae was allegedly planning to retire from streaming in the near future. A Twitter user named yoxics uploaded a clip where Valkyrae said she’s looking to do more “real life stuff” outside of streaming, which they claimed was a retirement announcement. Valkyrae quickly responded to the post, clarifying that she’s still happy with her career and that she’s not leaving streaming behind anytime soon. In another tweet, the streamer further explained that the uploaded clip was from a few months back, and also wondered why the Twitter user had it saved for so long. Many of Valkyrae’s fans also came to her defense, saying that they didn’t believe the clip when it started going viral.

Valkyrae is not the first streamer to have been rumored to be retiring after expressing that they want to do more beyond streaming and content creation. Pokimane has been the subject of this many times after moving away from her fixed regular stream schedule to focus on other projects and business ventures. It’s also common for streamers and content creators to take breaks every once in a while after experiencing burnout in order to keep their mental health in check. Meanwhile, there are some content creators who are more candid about their long-term retirement plans. Streamer Amouranth once detailed how long she planned on streaming while also making sure she had enough passive income to sustain herself in the future.

Over the last decade, content creation and streaming have become lucrative careers for many people, especially as social media continue to evolve. However, it’s not always perfect for creators, as they also experience doxxing and stalking from parasocial fans. Just last year, Valkyrae was harassed during an IRL stream with Cinna and Emiru, which further made the streamers reconsider what they share on their platforms. Many extreme cases have also pushed streamers to beef up security at home or even move to a different house to keep themselves and their families safe.

Additionally, platforms like Twitch and YouTube are constantly changing their policies to keep up with the ever-changing internet algorithms, which have caused frustrations among creators and even viewers. Now, there are also concerns surrounding the use of artificial intelligence (AI) and bots in these spaces, which could take away thousands or millions of views from other creators. Earlier this month, a Twitch manager went viral for encouraging viewbotting on the platform, claiming that creators could be at a disadvantage if they didn’t partake in this controversial move. Whether it’s staying away from the spotlight or frustrations over platform changes, these are just some of the possible reasons why online personalities would consider pursuing other opportunities beyond content creation.
