When I received a press release about a product that claimed to “power long gaming sessions, binge-watch marathons, and busy days” I was immediately intrigued–that’s quite literally all I do. It was ironic that I had one of the Fallout season 2 episodes on my third monitor while working, since that email invited me to try Yfood’s collaboration with the Prime Video series.
Yfood is a brand that’s been around for a while now, mostly based in Europe. Following the success of the first Fallout series, the food brand decided to launch the first-ever food collaboration.
There’s a range of six drinks, each replacing the classic Yfood branding with a character from the Fallout series. There are six flavors with limited edition bottles:
- Lucy MacLean – Classic Choco
- Steph Harper – Happy Banana
- The Ghoul – Smooth Vanilla
- Maximus – Fresh Berry
- CX404 – Heavenly Hazelnut
- Cooper Howard – Cold Brew Coffee
The ready-to-drink shakes are intended to replace meals, and one drink should keep you full for up to five hours. But did they live up to the marketing? I tried them all over the space of a week, and the short answer is yes.
The shakes aren’t chalky and don’t leave a bad aftertaste, unlike some similar products. They pack in 26 vitamins and minerals, and replacing my breakfast with one kept me full for the majority of the day. My favorite was definitely the Cold Brew Coffee, since I’m trying to keep away from caffeine right now–it still lets me feel like I’m having my usual morning iced latte. Just … thicker. And at £3.49 ($4.77), they’re more affordable than a takeout coffee, too.
As a fan of the series, the branding on the bottles is pretty cool, but it’s not something I’m going to keep on my shelf for the memorabilia aspect of things because of the invasive Yfood branding, unfortunately. Still, I enjoyed my week feeling like a Vault Hunter living off of synthesized food.
The six limited edition Fallout x yfood flavors can be bought online, or in Tesco and Sainsbury’s stores in the UK.
