- Ghost of Tsushima quickly became a fan-favorite in 2020, despite releasing amidst strong competition from The Last of Us Part 2.
- The success of Ghost of Tsushima led to the release of a multiplayer mode, a story DLC expansion, and a Director’s Cut for PlayStation 5.
- Although there is no official confirmation, it is highly likely that a sequel to Ghost of Tsushima is in the works and may be announced in 2024, along with a teaser for the live-action movie.
When Ghost of Tsushima first launched back in July 2020, it didn’t have the best release window. Just a month before its release, The Last of Us Part 2 hit store shelves, and due to the extreme amount of discourse that surrounded that game, Ghost of Tsushima, unfortunately, fell to the wayside for many PlayStation fans. But just like its in-game protagonist, word of Ghost of Tsushima‘s brilliance quickly started to travel, and within a few months, it had quickly become a fan-favorite of 2020.
Over the course of the next year or so, Ghost of Tsushima would go on to receive a free multiplayer mode titled Ghost of Tsushima Legends, along with a story DLC expansion that took players to a brand-new region named Iki Island, and finally a Director’s Cut of the game that bundled everything together and ported it all to the PlayStation 5. Since then, Sucker Punch has gone radio silent, and while that could have easily been the end for Ghost of Tsushima, it seems likely that it’s only the beginning for what could be one of PlayStation’s budding new first-party franchises.

Ghost of Tsushima 2 Could Be Announced in 2024
Sony’s current first-party line-up isn’t looking all that strong for 2024, though hopefully, it might still have a few surprises up its sleeve. While a huge AAA release like Ghost of Tsushima 2 probably won’t hit store shelves without plenty of warning, and thus probably won’t launch before the end of 2024, it doesn’t mean that fans won’t see a sequel get officially announced by the end of the year.
Right now, a Ghost of Tsushima sequel has not been officially revealed in any capacity, and there’s no real evidence to suggest that it’s even being worked on right now. The closest thing fans have to evidence of Ghost of Tsushima 2‘s existence is a job listing from all the way back in June 2022 that stated that Sucker Punch was hiring for a new stealth open-world title. Around the same time, Sucker Punch also stated that it wasn’t working on a new Sly Cooper or Infamous.
While this really isn’t much to go on, a Ghost of Tsushima sequel does only feel like a matter of time, with the first game being quite a commercial and critical success. If a Ghost of Tsushima 2 is in the works right now, fans may get to see it in 2024, maybe during a Summer PlayStation Showcase, or towards the end of the year, maybe during The Game Awards.
The Ghost of Tsushima Live-Action Movie Could Get Its First Trailer in 2024
Back in March 2021, a Ghost of Tsushima live-action movie was announced by PlayStation Productions, alongside 87Eleven, Chad Stahelski’s movie company. The director of the incredible John Wick movie franchise, Chad Stahelski will helm the Ghost of Tsushima live-action project, and in November of 2023, Stahelski confirmed that the script for the movie was complete, and that full production would begin soon.
While movie schedules can be notoriously changeable, it’s possible that fans will get to see some kind of teaser for the Ghost of Tsushima movie by the end of 2024. With the project not technically in full production just yet, however, that teaser will likely only be something very short, probably just a quick shot of Jin Sakai’s outline against a suitably picturesque backdrop. It might be a while before fans see anything more substantial from the Ghost of Tsushima live-action movie.
