Though its only been out for about three months, Where Winds Meet is already about to welcome a massive new expansion arriving in March. Developed by Everstone Studio and published by NetEase, the title lets players create their own martial arts hero and adventure through Chinese legends. Where Winds Meet is an action RPG, not unlike Elden Ring, but it is completely free to play while mixing in gacha systems for cosmetic items and player appearance.
The launch proved to be a success, as Where Winds Meet attracted over 2 million players in just 24 hours. The Wuxia-infused game features tons of quests, dungeons, professions, puzzles, and hidden secrets to explore at base. Now, players are on the cusp of a new addition to the game that’ll add even more content, and likely before many Where Winds Meet fans have even experienced everything the initial release offered.

Where Winds Meet Is Getting a New Zone in March
A new official video revealed the Hexi expansion, which is arriving for free on March 6. Though there wasn’t much written information shared in the way of a description of what players can expect, the trailer did tease some of the environments and content fans could tackle as they earn XP and level their Where Winds Meet hero.
The trailer opens with a voice saying, “The place within it, I’ve dreamed of it before.” At the same time, the player character is shown investigating a mural on a wall that crumbles to show the same character falling through water. “I need you to finish this painting,” the voice says. From there, the narration shifts between several characters as the trailer shows vast bodies of water, a golden city of light, and the player character in a vast desert and lush green plains. New enemies are also showcased throughout the latter half of the video, where a minotaur and a flower-headed beast both appear.
Though there wasn’t any footage showing the (currently) Chinese-only Where Winds Meets vehicle crafting feature, some wild boss fights also appear to be in the cards. Throughout the second-half of the teaser, some short snippets of encounters can be caught. In particular, a moon sorceress with a fishtail, a lightning-based warrior, and a white stag with head tentacles may stand out to fans. At the end of the trailer, the name for the second season of Where Winds Meet is also shown, titled Rewind and likewise beginning on March 6. The final moments of the Hexi trailer have one final surprise, too, showing fans a glimpse of the player character about to engage a massive lion infused with purple energy.
It looks like Where Winds Meet will continue to lean into melding its soulslike experience with open-world multiplayer. Anyone can drop in and out of co-op, and players are sent back to their solo world when they do so. Of course, it’s also worth noting that Hexi won’t be the first significant addition to the game. Only a month after launch, Where Winds Meets dropped a December roadmap featuring a new zone. And that was only the first sign of investment from NetEase and Everstone Studio.
That December roadmap was followed up by another Where Winds Meets roadmap for January that added yet another new zone and more story content. Now, it won’t be long before Where Winds Meet players have another locale to explore and adventure through, and if it’s anything like the other areas already in the game, they’ll be experiencing plenty of new content to undertake alone or with others. If the Hexi expansion is any indication of how support for the game will continue to be handled in the future, players will be eating well. For those who haven’t tried Where Winds Meet yet, now’s a good time to dive through some of the previously released content. And of course, it’s all free.
