PlayStation Plus fans are anxiously waiting for April 15, as it will bring the next batch of games to the service’s Extra tier. For some, the second batch of monthly games has become more anticipated than the initial Essential drop, as consistency has been one of PS Plus Extra’s main strengths for several months now. While PS Plus Essential has been hit or miss in 2026 thus far — April is the only month that has been stellar, not to mention some clear disappointments like February’s Undisputed — Extra has knocked it out of the park every single time. And when factoring in the phenomenal streak PS Plus Extra went on in 2025, it’s a very safe bet that whatever games are announced next week will satisfy players.

PS Plus Subscribers Have an Extra Freebie to Claim in April 2026

PlayStation Plus subscribers have another freebie to claim this month, but they’ll need to act fast.

Thus far, PS Plus Extra has had at least one major AAA release to offer each month. January kicked things off in a big way by combining horror and action with Resident Evil Village and Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth. With Resident Evil Requiem releasing just a month later, this was a brilliant way to build hype for a new game while enticing horror fans to subscribe to Extra. Then, in February, the excellent PlayStation 5 exclusive Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 was added to PS Plus Extra, giving superhero fans a critically acclaimed experience to enjoy as they please. March kept the ball rolling with the fan favorite Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2, which offers plenty of enjoyment for co-op fans looking for their group’s next big game. Persona 5 Royal also came to Extra in March, once again giving JRPG fans some love.

This only counts the most popular titles added in each month, as there have been some great indies added to PS Plus Extra this year like Neva, not to mention sports games like Madden NFL 26.

And while 2026 has certainly been great for those subscribed to PS Plus Extra, it would be a disservice to the category to not highlight its 2025 additions. The following games all came to PS Plus Extra back in 2025, further sweetening the deal and solidifying it as the best tier available to PlayStation fans:

  • God of War Ragnarok (January)
  • Star Wars Jedi: Survivor (February)
  • Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown (March)
  • Hogwarts Legacy (April)
  • Battlefield 1 (April)
  • Battlefield 5 (May)
  • Battlefield 2042 (June)
  • Diablo 4 (July)
  • Lies of P (August)
  • WWE 2K25 (September)
  • Persona 5 Tactica (September)
  • Alan Wake 2 (October)
  • Grand Theft Auto 5 (November)
  • Red Dead Redemption (December)
  • Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty (December)
  • Assassin’s Creed Mirage (December)

PS Plus Extra has arguably been on a hot streak for well over a year, but if one were to see the month when Battlefield 2042 was a headliner as a weak link (even though BF 2042 improved drastically), then the streak is 9 months. Still, the point is clear: PS Plus Extra almost never misses, as it regularly adds blockbuster games to its catalog to keep subscribers satisfied.

Given this impressive run, it’s only fitting for PS Plus Extra to keep the ball rolling, though how it will do so has been less clear. There’s not really a specific pattern that Sony follows for Extra additions, though maybe adding Resident Evil Village to PS Plus Extra just before Requiem’s release could be a hint of a more deliberate approach being taken with the tier. Perhaps one of April 2026’s PS Plus Extra slots will be used to hype an upcoming release, and there are a few contenders to consider.

First, there’s Saros, the next big PlayStation 5 console exclusive from Returnal developer Saros. While Returnal is on PS Plus Extra, as is Resogun, maybe another Housemarque classic like Nex Machina could be added to further highlight the first party studio’s past work. Next, there’s LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight, which could be hyped up by adding the other LEGO Batman games to PS Plus Extra. Finally, 007: First Light from Hitman developer IO Interactive launches near the end of May, and adding the developer’s recent Hitman games to the service could be a fun way to get Bond fans familiar with the studio’s style. Obviously, there’s no guarantee that any of these games will come to the service, as this is purely speculation based on an approach taken earlier in 2026. What is certain, though, is that PS Plus Extra is sure to add at least one awesome game to its lineup come April 15, 2026.
