World of Warcraft just announced it would be increasing the maximum number of characters each player could have from 60 to 65 in Dragonflight Patch 10.2.7. According to World of Warcraft developers, this addition was made in direct response to fan feedback.
Recently, World of Warcraft announced Patch 10.2.7, Dark Heart, which launches on May 7. In addition to new story and activities for Dragonflight, this patch also includes WoW Remix: Mists of Pandaria, a throwback event where players create new characters to experience the 12-year-old expansion with modern convenience, beginning on May 16. While the original announcement said it would be adding new character slots for this event, World of Warcraft later quietly removed that section from the post, suggesting fans would have to make room in their rosters if they already had 60 characters.
Blizzard is Shutting Down the WoW Companion App
After several years of service, Blizzard confirms that the World of Warcraft Companion App will be retired when The War Within expansion launches.
However, it seems World of Warcraft was able to make these new character slots after all. According to a forum post by WoW community manager Kaivax, Patch 10.2.7 is adding five new character slots for each account, bringing the total from 60 to 65. A later remark from World of Warcraft lead software engineer Orlando Salvatore on his personal Twitter confirmed this change was made because of feedback from players, where he thanked them for making their voices heard.
When is the WoW Character Limit Increasing to 65?
Some fans might wonder how necessary this character limit increase really is. World of Warcraft stated over half of the community plays more than one character in a recent Warbands feature video, and of these, a surprising number have a full list of 60 alts. These self-proclaimed “altaholics” would have had to delete one of their characters in order to make a new one for WoW Remix: Mists of Pandaria, which could be a huge problem if they were already attached to all of them. This change will ensure players won’t have this problem.
World of Warcraft Remix: Mists of Pandaria itself is looking quite promising. Fans who have tried the event out on the Public Test Realm have had great things to say about it, and the cosmetic rewards players can obtain through it include some rare and recolored transmogs, mounts, and minions. Fans will be able to keep their characters from WoW Remix: Mists of Pandaria and bring them into The War Within – but it might be smart to save some of these extra slots in case World of Warcraft does more remix events in the future.
