Highlights

  • The Plunderstorm exploit in WoW allows duos to survive in the Storm indefinitely, thanks to a recent hotfix reducing revive time.
  • With precise timing, players can use Health Brew and quick revives to outlast the Storm’s damage and stay hidden out of bounds.
  • This unintended tactic will likely be fixed soon, as the Storm is meant to be a deadly obstacle, not a safe haven for players in WoW Plunderstorm.

Some World of Warcraft fans have discovered an exploit in Plunderstorm that makes it so a Duo team can keep resurrecting each other while in the Storm. This cheap tactic is only possible thanks to a recent hotfix, but it allows World of Warcraft players to survive indefinitely while out of bounds in the battle royale.

Plunderstorm is a new limited-time World of Warcraft game mode where 60 players compete alone or in teams of two to collect Plunder and be the last one standing. Like other Battle Royales, Plunderstorm features an encroaching area, called the Storm, that will quickly kill characters who linger within it, forcing everyone towards a central area to end the game.

World of Warcraft players discover a secret achievement they can unlock via the new Plunderstorm game mode, but earning it is not easy.

However, some World of Warcraft players have found a way to beat the Storm indefinitely. The Storm deals 12% of a character’s max health every three seconds – an inexorable fate that will kill them eventually. That said, after a recent Plunderstorm hotfix in World of Warcraft, the time it takes to revive a fallen teammate was reduced from 15 seconds to 10, allowing clever fans to survive in the Storm by chaining deaths, revives, and Heath Brew. WoW Plunderstorm fan and content creator Crille3 witnessed two opponents using this tactic to brave the Storm, which he shared on his Twitch.

WoW Exploit Lets Players Hide in the Plunderstorm

  • The Storm in WoW Plunderstorm deals 12% max health every 3 seconds.
  • Reviving a teammate only takes 10 seconds after a recent hotfix, and Health Brew heals characters for close to 50% of their max health every 30 seconds.
  • With perfect timing, a duo team can hide out of bounds in Plunderstorm indefinitely.

This tactic was obviously an unforeseen byproduct of the recent Plunderstorm hotfix. The Storm is meant to be a deadly obstacle, not a hiding place, so World of Warcraft fans shouldn’t expect this exploit to stay for long. Considering the frequent balance adjustments and updates World of Warcraft has given Plunderstorm in the week since its launch, this exploit will likely be fixed soon, either by increasing the Storm’s damage or some other change.

Plunderstorm has been a successful experiment for World of Warcraft so far. Though the game mode is not for everyone, some fans say the battle royale is the most refreshing thing WoW has done in a while. Regardless, World of Warcraft has already teased plans for new PvE content in the near future, so even if players don’t enjoy Plunderstorm, they should look forward to what WoW can do with the things it can take away from the new game mode.
