- World of Warcraft fans have discovered new dialogue in the game that hints at the upcoming expansion, The War Within, by equipping specific weapons and speaking to an NPC in Silithus.
- The dialogue reveals connections between the weapons and important lore, such as Sargeras’ sword and the Titans’ design.
- The discovery of these Easter eggs has sparked speculation about the motives behind Sargeras’ actions, the true directive of the Titans, and the plans of the antagonist Xal’atath in The War Within.
World of Warcraft fans have discovered some new dialogue in the game that teases The War Within. Players can find these Easter eggs by equipping the weapons from the November 2023 Trading Post Reward and speaking with a World of Warcraft NPC located in Silithus.
In November, World of Warcraft gave players M’thorus, Dagger of the Grand Design, Taesavir, Sword of the Grand Design, and Voidsong, Stave of the Harbinger, as a part of a cosmetic collection called the Cosmic Weapons Cache. After The War Within was announced at BlizzCon, World of Warcraft added Gorridar, Darkblade of the Sunderer, and Seetheras, Broadsword of the Sunderer, to the arsenal.

World of Warcraft clarifies where the bonus Trader’s Tender players have been receiving is from, dispelling confusion on how to get it.
Now, players have discovered some special dialogue unlocked by bringing these weapons to a particular NPC. World of Warcraft fan Hammerman753 discovered the Easter egg when he approached the Twilight Hermit in Silithus with the Sargeras-themed swords transmogged. The Hermit recognizes the power of the weapon as the same as Sargeras’s sword in World of Warcraft, and speculates that the Dark Titan struck Silithus for a reason. Other players discovered the NPC had dialogue while wielding M’thorus or Taesavir as well, warning that the Titans’ design may not be as different from Sargeras’ as players may think.
Should players approach the same NPC with Voidsong transmogged, the Twilight Hermit recognizes and identifies the item as an artifact from the Black Empire. It implies the staff was wielded by the Harbinger so that she might accomplish something, though an “unseen presence” chastises the NPC before he reveals it, implying Xal’atath, the main antagonist of World of Warcraft: The War Within, may have stopped him.
Needless to say, fans were delighted to discover this Easter egg. This new hidden lore has only added fuel to the fires of speculation as to why Sargeras struck Silithus with his blade, what the true directive of the Titans is, and what Xal’atath is planning in The War Within. What’s more, the Twilight Hermit is not a new NPC, and has been in the game since Battle for Azeroth, so there’s a good chance this secret has been in World of Warcraft waiting for players to discover it since the weapons were added in November, making players wonder if there are more surprises yet to discover in Azeroth.
This isn’t the only World of Warcraft Easter egg Xal’atath has had her hand in recently. In WoW Classic Season of Discovery, a Shadowy Figure that is almost certainly the Harbinger appears to players learning to craft powerful Epic items at the current level cap. It seems whatever Xal’atath is up to in The War Within may have ramifications even bigger than players expected.
