The latest Xbox Game Pass library update has introduced Planet Coaster 2, which is now available across three membership tiers. This is the fourth new title to reach the subscription service in April 2026 and the 58th Xbox Game Pass addition this year.
Planet Coaster 2 is a 2024 theme park management sim from British studio Frontier Developments. As the name implies, it is a direct sequel to the 2016 Planet Coaster, an indie darling rewarding control and creativity alike, which is estimated to have sold 4.8 million units on PC alone, according to an average of estimates from VG Insights, Gamalytic, and PlayTracker. While its commercial momentum is tracking behind its predecessor, Planet Coaster 2 debuted to comparably favorable reviews, as underlined by its “Strong” OpenCritic rating, based on 50 reviews with an average score of 78 and an 85% recommendation rate. It has also amassed over 7,500 Steam user reviews, 71% of which are positive, as of April 2026. Those two data points combined make Planet Coaster 2 one of the best-received modern rollercoaster tycoon games.

Planet Coaster 2 Boosts Xbox Game Pass Theme Park Sim Catalog
The 2024 management sim became available on Microsoft’s subscription service for the first time ever earlier today, April 9, roughly 17 months since its original release. It joined the Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and Premium tiers, plus PC Game Pass. Its debut coincides with a major Xbox Store spring 2026 sale that introduced a flat 60% discount on all versions of Planet Coaster 2, lowering the prices of the base and deluxe editions to $19.99 and $25.99, respectively.
The original Planet Coaster also had a stint in the Xbox Game Pass catalog, running from November 2020 through November 2021. Its sequel could thus be looking at another 12-month availability window, which is a fairly standard timeframe for third-party additions to the service. The theme park builder is a big win for the tycoon title lineup on Xbox Game Pass, which currently includes only a select few games, such as Paradox Interactive’s Cities: Skylines – Remastered and Xbox Game Studios’ very own Zoo Tycoon.

Xbox Game Pass currently has nine more confirmed April 2026 arrivals that are still waiting to be added, beginning with Tiny Bookshop, Replaced, and Hades 2, in that order. The Thaumaturge, EA Sports NHL 26, and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare are also due to expand the service later this month, as are Aphelion, Kiln, and Vampire Crawlers.

Even more arrivals are expected to be confirmed on or around April 21, when the Wave 2 lineup for the month is likely to be formalized. In the meantime, Xbox Game Pass is scheduled to lose a handful of titles on April 15, with Grand Theft Auto 5 headlining its next wave of departures.
