With people running out and buying new consoles in anticipation of Grand Theft Auto 6‘s November 19 launch, it should be noted that Xbox gamers will likely be able to access the game first in most parts of the world. The latest information on Grand Theft Auto 6‘s launch is that Rockstar is planning a rolling midnight release for the game. What this means is that GTA 6 will be available in your region at midnight local time, as opposed to the game launching at the same time worldwide like we’ve seen with some other releases over the years.
Grand Theft Auto 6‘s launch is set to be a massive one, to say the least, and maybe the rolling release will alleviate some pressure that might hit the PlayStation and Xbox servers. Even though Grand Theft Auto 6 is launching without an online mode and will be a strictly single-player experience upon release, it will still require everyone to download it if they want to play. There will be no physical disc version of GTA 6 — even those that buy it physically will only be getting a box with a digital code inside.
GTA 6 Will Technically Be Playable on Xbox First in Most Parts of the World
The lack of a physical disc has upset some GTA 6 fans, as has the fact that the game is skipping a PC release, with no word on when that version will be available. Anyone that wants to play Grand Theft Auto 6 when it launches on November 19 will need to have a PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X/S console handy, and while there are pros and cons to both consoles, early access to the game is something fans may want to take into account. Unless some new rules are imposed or Rockstar changes how it’s releasing GTA 6, Xbox gamers can use the “New Zealand trick” to play the game early. PS5 gamers will simply have to wait until midnight local time to play the game.
When GTA 6 releases in New Zealand, it will be Wednesday, November 18 at 3:00am PST/5:00am CST/6:00am EST in the United States. In other words, unless something changes between now and release, Xbox gamers will be able to set their console’s region to New Zealand and get to play the game in the morning of November 18 instead of having to wait until midnight. For Xbox gamers on the West Coast that are willing to get up early, that’s potentially over 20 hours early access to GTA 6 compared to those on PS5.
While potentially getting to play GTA 6 early is definitely a selling point for some, it is unlikely to move too many Xbox units compared to PS5. Most consumers are likely completely unaware of the New Zealand trick, plus PS5 consoles are generally cheaper than Xbox Series X consoles. And while Sony has drummed up controversy lately thanks to unpopular decisions like ending disc production, there’s no denying that the PlayStation brand name is simply stronger than Xbox. Still, Xbox gamers getting the chance to play GTA 6 early is definitely a neat perk.
Regardless of whether one is on Xbox or PlayStation, the GTA 6 launch is set to be an absolutely mammoth one. GTA 6 is perhaps the most highly-anticipated game of all time, and it will be exciting to see if it lives up to the hype and dizzying expectations when November 19 finally rolls around.
