- Microsoft released 7 new dynamic backgrounds for Xbox Series X/S consoles, taken from the “Xbox Celebrates” collection of 2023.
- Users can choose from unique animations and themes, including International Day of World’s Indigenous People and Hispanic Heritage Month.
- To access these backgrounds, users must navigate to the Dynamic Backgrounds tab in system settings and choose from the Featured section.
As January drew to a close, Microsoft gave Xbox console users a gift of 7 new dynamic backgrounds to pick from. Each new Xbox dynamic background was taken from the “Xbox Celebrates” image collection originally posted in 2023, and each one had unique animations for Xbox Series X and Series S users to pick from and give their consoles a new look.
The update to dynamic backgrounds came just days after Microsoft released a new beta for Xbox Insider Program users to test. This update would allow users to filter and organize their games and applications to help them find what they want. These filters can organize games and apps via Accessibility Options, Supported Languages, and Technical Capabilities. The same beta update gave some subscription tabs a new option to organize through items that were recently added to the system. However, the beta ring update also had some reported audio and network issues, which Microsoft asked for further feedback from testers.
New Xbox Report Reveals Record Number of Monthly Active Users and Major Increase in Sales
Financial reports reveal a major increase in Xbox monthly active users, alongside rising revenue from Xbox content and services.
However, Xbox users will have more options to pick from, thanks to some new dynamic backgrounds. According to Tom Warren of The Verge, these 7 dynamic backgrounds were taken from images that were originally part of the “Xbox Celebrates” collection of 2023. These new dynamic backgrounds for Xbox Series X/S consoles came just two weeks after Xbox released 5 dynamic backgrounds based on titles such as Cyberpunk 2077 and EA Sports FC 24. The 7 dynamic backgrounds were themed around different occasions, such as International Day of World’s Indigenous People, the Gaming and Disability Community, and Hispanic Heritage Month.

To obtain these dynamic backgrounds, Xbox Series X/S users must select the Background option from the Personalization menu in system settings, and then navigate to the Dynamic Backgrounds tab. From there, each of the 7 new dynamic backgrounds can be picked from the Featured section located at the bottom of the screen. Users who want to enjoy looking at the new dynamic backgrounds can press the X button to hide the Xbox system menus and can press X again to resume normal operations.
In addition to the Xbox Celebrates 2023 collection of dynamic backgrounds, Xbox users who purchase a new Dream Vapor Controller from the upcoming Vapor Controller Collection on the Xbox Design Lab will get a pink, wispy dynamic background to use. This background will be added once the Dream Vapor Controller has been connected to a user’s Xbox Series X/S system.
Between the release of 7 additional dynamic backgrounds and the ongoing Lunar New Year sale, Xbox players have plenty of reasons to celebrate a fast start to 2024. It remains to be seen which dynamic backgrounds Xbox will add in the future.
