Fans of Ubisoft’s long-running stealth series can now sample Assassin’s Creed: Mirage for free. For the next two weeks, gamers can download a free trial of Assassin’s Creed: Mirage, giving them two hours to try out the latest installment of the franchise.

Following on from the epic Viking saga of Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla, 2023’s Assassin’s Creed: Mirage delivered an ambitious tonal change of pace for the franchise. This latest installment promised to return to the series’ roots after several years of vast open-world RPG experiences, with a more linear story and gameplay prioritizing stealth and parkour over the hack-and-slash action of Origins, Odyssey, and Valhalla. Set in 9th-century Baghdad, the story follows Basim – a returning character with a long road to travel before his appearance in Valhalla’s Saxon Briton – over his journey from street thief to master assassin. Assassin’s Creed: Mirage has also just received a major update focused on ironing out remaining bugs and glitches, meaning now could be a good time to pick up the game for those yet to do so.

Assassin’s Creed Red Leaks Menu Screen and New Details

The main menu screen of Ubisoft’s next big Assassin’s Creed title, codenamed Red, appears online in what seems to be a work-in-progress build.

From April 16 – April 30, players can try out Assassin’s Creed: Mirage with a new two-hour-long free trial. Progression from the trial will carry over into the full game, allowing anyone who later purchases Mirage to continue the story from where they left off. Whether they already own the game or not, all players will also receive a free Eivor skin for Basim, further linking the two games. Anyone who enjoys the trial can then choose between the different versions of Assassin’s Creed: Mirage, including a deluxe edition which comes bundled with a digital artbook, soundtrack, and unique Prince of Persia-inspired content.

The Future of Assassin’s Creed

Ubisoft has recently released teasers regarding the future of the Assassin’s Creed series. The next major title, code-named Assassin’s Creed Red, will take place in ancient Japan and could potentially be released later in 2024. Popularly associated with stealthy ninjas and noble samurai, feudal Japan has long been a highly demanded setting for the franchise. Other upcoming titles include Assassin’s Creed Hexe, an intriguing installment rumored to take place during the witch hunts of 16th-century Germany.

Ubisoft has also announced the evolving live-service hub Assassin’s Creed Infinity, which, beginning with Assassin’s Creed Red, will host all future games in the series. While the exact details of these upcoming releases are largely unknown, gamers can expect more to be revealed during the Ubisoft Forward event planned for June 10, 2024. Until then, gamers can enjoy the Assassin’s Creed: Mirage free trial until April 30 on PlayStation5, PlayStation4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC.
