The forthcoming rerelease of Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen on Nintendo Switch is an odd one, as it’ll be standalone and cost $20 for each version. This release gets stranger when you factor in that Japan is getting what appears to be an exclusive special edition with some appealing goodies.

Per the Japanese Pokemon website (spotted by Nintendo Life), this special edition includes reproductions of the original Game Boy Advance packaging for the classic Pokemon games. It also comes with a special case that holds three glass Poke Balls depicting the Kanto starters: Bulbasaur, Charmander, and Squirtle.

The set comes with a download code for FireRed or LeafGreen, depending on which version you purchase. Pokemon Center Online lists the special edition with a price of 19,800 yen, which is a little over $127 USD.

It’s uncertain if The Pokemon Company will sell this special edition in physical Pokemon Center stores, let alone release it in the West at all. The United States currently has no Pokemon Center retail locations.

Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen are releasing on Nintendo Switch on February 27 in Nintendo eShop, right after a Pokemon Presents livestream. The retro GBA titles will release in multiple versions for different languages, and Nintendo has no plans to include them with Nintendo Switch Online.
