Z-A NPC Gets Shiny Feebas, Doesn’t Appreciate It at All

Z-A NPC Gets Shiny Feebas, Doesn’t Appreciate It at All

A Pokemon Legends: Z-A player chose to give away a Shiny Feebas to an NPC, only to end up regretting the move tremendously. Though it seemed like a good idea at the time, unfortunately, it didn’t go the way that the Pokemon Legends: Z-A trainer thought that it would.

Shiny Pokemon are always popular, though their rarity has shifted quite a bit over the course of the series. Players have discovered several ways to make Shiny hunting easier in Pokemon Legends: Z-A, but it’s typically still a matter of chance. Given their rarity, most players likely wouldn’t think about giving one away at random to an NPC.

Want to Catch ’em All? This is How You Find All Legendary and Mythical Pokemon in Legends: Z-A

Pokemon Legends: Z-A’s Mega Dimension DLC brings back multiple Legendary and Mythical Pokemon, and here’s how to catch ’em all.

Pokemon Legends: Z-A Player Laments Shiny Feebas

Pokemon Gave Up Feebas

A Pokemon trainer going by CassowaryCrow on Reddit shared their moment of regret when they gave away their Shiny Feebas in Pokemon Legends: Z-A to an NPC. It wasn’t done out of necessity, as the NPC simply asked for a regular Feebas. However, CassowaryCrow had a plan: they wanted to trade the NPC a Shiny so that whenever they were in the area, they’d have a chance of seeing their Shiny Feebas on the overworld, hanging out with its new trainer. The NPC, Soucian, graciously accepted the Feebas and even acknowledged that it was Shiny. However, when the player returned to the spot, their Feebas was nowhere to be seen. They spoke to Soucian, who revealed that she had released the Pokemon back into the wild, with the intention of allowing the Feebas to make friends with the local Magikarp.

Those responding to the post have largely been aghast at the situation, with many making jokes about calling Officer Jenny to report the situation. Others have discussed how it’s actually a terrible idea to release a wild creature into an existing ecosystem, like Soucian ends up doing. Players have also noted that Feebas do eventually end up spawning after handing one over, but unfortunately, CassowaryCrow’s Shiny wouldn’t be able to return even then. Some have said that the NPC wondering why there weren’t any Feebas in the water implied that she would let it go after receiving it. However, she never explicitly states this in advance, gets upset if she’s denied a Feebas, and explicitly asks for a “Feebas to have as my own,” so it’s reasonable to think she intends to keep the Feebas, not release it.

What’s the Point of Handing Over a Feebas Anyway?

While losing a Shiny isn’t something anyone wants to go through, there is good reason to give the trainer a non-Shiny Feebas. The request is a side quest in Wild Zone 2 called Feebas’s New Friends. In addition to giving her one causing more Feebas to eventually spawn in the water, she also rewards the player with ₽1,600 and a Prism Scale. Prism Scales can be given to a Feebas before training it to another player, which will trigger it to evolve into Milotic. Players without more than one Feebas will have to go get another one to make use of the Prism Scale, but it’s not a bad way to get the item and work towards a Milotic.

While CassowaryCrow lamented their decision to give their Shiny Feebas to Soucian, the story did have an eventual happy ending. The player noted in the comments that they ended up loading a back-up save because they were so bothered by what had just happened. As a result, they have their Shiny Feebas back, but not every Pokemon player is so lucky. Another trainer in the comments mentioned that they gave a Shiny Alpha Feebas to the NPC, which already had a Prism Scale equipped. Since the Pokemon is given away and not traded, it doesn’t evolve, and still gets dumped into the water by the NPC, never to be seen again.
