Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, like Breath of the Wild before it, is full of details that weren’t necessary to put in the game, but help the world to feel more alive and interesting because they’re there. NPCs can react to what Link’s wearing, his dropped torch from the beginning of the story can be found near the end of the game, and little things connect Breath of the Wild and its sequel, like the pair of apples found under the Kakariko bridge. These are just a few of the small facets of the game, but players keep surprising each other by discovering new things like this Cucco detail.

After picking up a Cucco from Kakariko Village and carrying it away from the town, player Slashersmash69 on Reddit noticed something odd about the Cucco’s reactions. After setting it down, the Cucco would always face in the direction of Kakariko Village. A short video shared by the player demonstrates it, with them picking up and moving the Cucco, waiting for it to settle, and then checking the map. Sure enough, the bird always points in the direction of its home.
This interesting detail has amused and puzzled fellow players. Some thought that the Cucco might just be setting a path to head home, but Slashersmash69 points out that if it’s too far away from its origin, it will stop before it gets there and keep facing that direction. Others joked about how the Cucco became a ‘Cuccompas,’ while some suggested that the Cuccco was homesick and deserved to be taken back to its origin.
Do All Tears of the Kingdom Cuccos Point Home?
Another player, OSCgal, emerged in the thread to share their findings, revealing that some Cuccos react this way, while others don’t. According to OSCgal, Cuccos from Robbie’s lab, Riverside Stable, and Dueling Peaks Stable would all point in the direction of home and try to get there, at least to an extent. Oddly enough, not all of the Cuccos reacted this way in testing. It seems that some of the Zelda chickens yearn for home, but not all of them.
Tears of the Kingdom made a big impression on gamers and served as a successful follow-up to one of the most impressive Zelda games to date. While the overall story and gameplay has been highly praised, the little things like this are part of what keeps players coming back and helped Tears of the Kingdom to be nominated for numerous gaming awards.

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is the sequel to the beloved open-world adventure, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. This installment once again sees Link and Zelda battling to protect Hyrule from falling to Ganondorf. This new adventure takes place in the same land of Hyrule as Breath of the Wild but sees something called the Upheaval, which allows link to travel to Sky Islands, as well as deep into the Depths beneath Hyrule. Players can use special abilities to fuse together weapons, and build items to help them progress through the release.
