10 PlayStation + PC Games Are Shutting Down on June 1

10 PlayStation + PC Games Are Shutting Down on June 1

Likely because of its position in the calendar year, June 1 has been designated as a massive delisting and shutdown date for 10 games across PlayStation and PC, including one that’s been around for a decade. In some cases, it means that games are utterly incapable of being played anymore, which no one should want—even if that specific game isn’t your cup of tea. In other cases, the game will still be playable without any sort of online support, but shutdowns like this (which is happening with LEGO 2K Drive) are increasingly rare.

It’s worth noting that the Stop Killing Games Movement was founded for this exact reason, as game preservation should be a key component of game development and the industry. It’s not a simple problem, but challenges are as real in life as they are in video games. On one hand, it makes sense that servers cannot support games forever because of the price and maintenance required in their upkeep; on the other hand, anyone who wants to boot up Anthem and fly around should be able to—but they can’t. It’s complex, as is each of the shutdowns below, but PlayStation and PC fans should be mindful of the dwindling time.

Official Final Fantasy 9 Prequel Available Now

Final Fantasy 9 is getting a brand-new official prequel from Square Enix on May 19, following one of the main characters of the beloved RPG.

Rec Room is Shutting Down Forever

Shutting Down on All Major Platforms

For the past two months, Rec Room has essentially been exclusive to existing owners of the free-to-play VR and screen-based title. It has been active for the past decade, bringing in over 150 million players, 68K years in playtime, and the biggest user-generated content rooms saw over 500 years of playtime. Unfortunately, as developer Against Gravity revealed nearly two months ago, the costs to keep Rec Room going have always exceeded the money it brought in. As such, Rec Room will shut down on all platforms beginning June 1: PlayStation, PC, Xbox, Switch, and Mobile devices.

Zen Studios’ Pinball Games Are Undergoing Some Complicated Changes

Effective End of Service on PlayStation Store

Whereas Rec Room is a full shutdown, Pinball FX3, Pinball FX, and Pinball M are somewhat complicated changes for PlayStation users that ultimately have a similar impact. Pinball FX3 is set to be hidden from the PlayStation Store sometime in May, although it hasn’t yet as of this writing, effectively giving it a shutdown date of June 1. To be clear, anyone who owns it can still play and buy extra content for it, but new players will not be able to download or play the game. Similarly, Pinball FX and Pinball M will no longer receive support or updates on June 1 for PS4 or Xbox One.

Horizon Chase Turbo Can No Longer Be Purchased on June 1

Shutting Down on All Major Platforms

Shortly after Epic Games announced it was laying off 1000+ employees, the announcement was made that three Fortnite game modes and the Horizon Chase series from Aquiris Games were being shut down. Effective June 1, neither Horizon Chase nor Horizon Chase Turbo (effectively the same game) will be able to be purchased on June 1. HCT remains available on all major platforms, including the PlayStation Store and Steam, until that time, but anyone who wants to preserve as much of it as they can should be sure to consider all of its downloadable content as well.

Tinymoon is Taking Clouzy and Tracks of the Arcana Offline

Steam: Two PC Games Shutting Down on June 1

What began as a university project for new development studio Tinymoon is coming to an end on June 1. The small dev team developed and published Clouzy and Tracks of the Arcana, both of which are leaving PC storefront Steam on June 1. The former is essentially a daycare sim where players take care of clouds, while the latter is a tarot-inspired adventure game where players travel the stars in a train. After June 1, Clouzy will be available for free on itch.io for anyone who wants to play it, but otherwise, it and Tracks of the Arcana are completely offline. Clouzy is also available on EGS, but with the itch.io decision, it is likely to be removed there soon as well.

Mage Noir – Infinity

Steam: Shutting Down Forever on June 1

Mage Noir – Infinity, the free-to-play strategy game and video game for the physical Mage Noir card game, will completely shut down on June 1. In-game purchases have already been disabled, and as of this writing, there is no impact on the physical card game.

Mighty Wars

Steam: Shutting Down Forever on June 1

mighty wars screenshot

Developer Gisp’s Mighty Wars is a free-to-play turn-based strategy game that was once available for mobile before being delisted, and unfortunately, its fate on Steam is much the same. Already, the game’s Steam page has been taken down, and the online services (if any) will be shut down on June 1. Gisp acknowledged it could be slightly sooner as there were only a “few users” playing the game when the initial announcement was made, but regardless, once those online services are shut down, it’s curtains forever.

Star Conflict

Steam: Entering Shut Down Procedures on June 1

star conflict

Star Gem and Gaijin Network are shutting down their 13-year-old MMO space sim, Star Conflict, after accepting no new players as of May 14. As MMO fans may unfortunately know, these shutdowns are usually elongated processes because of their monetization and time dedication for existing players. At the very least, Star Conflict has given fans plenty of heads up following the initial announcement in April. June 1 represents the end of monetization, the end of new content, and the end of “reasons” to play the game. Star Conflict has promised to keep servers up for any existing players until October 10, but June 1 marks the beginning of its end. At the very least, those who have spent so much time with Star Conflict over the years have one last summer with the game.
