2018 Simulation Game on Steam is Absolutely Free for a Limited Time

2018 Simulation Game on Steam is Absolutely Free for a Limited Time

Steam users have a limited time to play a free 2018 simulation game before it transitions to a paid model, although it is not yet clear how long it will remain free. Similarly, it’s not certain how long it’ll be available on the paid model via the announcement on Steam.

It’s worth noting that this is not the only free game on Steam, as of this writing. Although this particular game is not part of Steam’s Free-to-Keep Promotion, that promotion is currently offering the roguelike dungeon-crawler/management game Moonlighter at no cost. Those interested have until August 9 to claim it for their digital libraries and keep it forever. Meanwhile, they can also check out Blast the Past completely free of charge.

Unique New Roguelike Game on Steam Launches to Strong, 93% Very Positive Reviews

A new roguelike game on Steam, with a unique premise unlike other games in the genre, gets an instant Very Positive reception.

Blast the Past is Free for a Limited Time on Steam

Blast the Past is a free VR simulation game from 2018 where players operate a wrecking crane to destroy the last remaining old-school skyscraper in a building. Gameplay is simple, as players mash buttons, turn wheels, and hit the skyscraper with the wrecking ball, but sometimes a good ole destruction game is worth its weight in gold. It’s certainly a way to alleviate some pressure. Players are also encouraged to preserve historical elements of the past. Blast the Past has been a free-to-play game on Steam for some time, but developer The Work Club has announced it’s transitioning to a paid model for a short time.

Once its free-to-play period ends and its transition to a paid game is complete, it’ll only set fans back $1, but $1 is $1. Anyone can play it beforehand, so they should be sure to do so if they are penny-pinching everything they can (which, I mean, in this economy…). The Work Club explained that the reason for this price increase is simple: it wants to access all available Steam features, such as putting games on sale, creating custom emotes, and creating Steam trading cards. The dev also explained that once/if the game gets recognized, it’ll transition back to free in just a few months, so there’s that option too.

Blast the Past Gameplay at a Glance

  • Control heavy machinery
  • Dynamic Destruction
  • Music tapes for every taste
  • Tons of interactable content
  • Secrets and lots to discover

Steam isn’t hosting a Free Weekend promotion this weekend, so it’s a solid option for anyone looking to play something sooner rather than later. However, it’s also worth mentioning that the rationale behind all of this is that The Work Club is not a transitional developer. Back in 2018, Blast the Past was made and released as a school project from 7 Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences students. In other words, it seems they didn’t let each other down on the group project.

Blast the Past holds a solid review rating on Steam, although the volume of those who have played it is relatively “low.” It currently sits at an 86% Very Positive review rating with 151 reviews, so it’ll be interesting to see if this F2P-to-paid transition gets the results and attention The Work Club desires.
