Nintendo Switch exclusive Master Detective Archives: Rain Code is coming to PlayStation and Xbox consoles, as well as PC. Spike Chunsoft announced its trio of ports just six weeks shy of the game’s first anniversary.
Master Detective Archives: Rain Code is the third-ever title from Too Kyo Games, a studio founded by Danganronpa creator Kazutaka Kodaka. Its development team comprised several other Danganronpa series veterans, including composer Masafumi Takada and character artist Rui Komatsuzaki. The game was published by Spike Chunsoft, Kodaka’s former employer. It debuted as a Switch exclusive in June 2023, amassing positive reviews, as underlined by its Metacritic Metascore of 77.

Master Detective Archives: Rain Code Is Getting a Definitive Edition
Spike Chunsoft is now gearing up to bring the game to non-Nintendo consoles and PC in the form of Master Detective Archives: Rain Code+. Much like that slightly altered moniker suggests, the newly confirmed port is being billed as the definitive edition of the game. Spike Chunsoft said this version will include “additional features,” according to a machine translation of its social media announcement, albeit without elaborating on the matter. The soon-to-be-former Nintendo Switch exclusive is scheduled to hit the PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC on July 18, 2024.
Spike Chunsoft promised to reveal more information about Master Detective Archives: Rain Code+ this Thursday, May 9. With the game being just two months out, it’s possible that pre-orders will open on that date. The Switch version of Master Detective Archives: Rain Code received four DLC packs following its release, which were available at $5 a pop, or as part of a $16 Season Pass. This quartet of post-launch add-ons is likely to be included in the upcoming definitive edition of the game.
While it received rather favorable reviews, Master Detective Archives: Rain Code incurred some criticism for its low image quality underlined by somewhat muddy visuals, which some fans have speculated was at least partially a result of the aging Switch hardware. A move to more powerful platforms may hence allow Too Kyo Games to address this common complaint.
Spike Chunsoft’s track record indicates that PlayStation and Xbox users may be able to grab a physical copy of Master Detective Archives: Rain Code+. The Switch version was also treated to a physical release, as well as the $109.99 Mysteriful Limited Edition, which comes with an art book, steelbook, physical soundtrack, and a 6.5″ Shinigami plush. The wider release of Master Detective Archives: Rain Code+ is likely to be welcome news for Danganronpa fans, as well as aficionados of adventure and narrative-driven games.
