A story-rich role-playing game on Steam called Facing the Rain, which has been a paid game on the platform since 2024, has decided to drop its price tag for good, giving PC users a new adventure to experience at no cost. Steam regularly offers free-to-keep promotions that give players time-limited 100% discounts on games. However, the current offer for Facing the Rain differs from those events and is not necessarily tied to a deadline.
In Facing the Rain, players take on the role of a young woman starting a new job as a maid at a mysterious hotel. The gameplay revolves around meeting new people, solving puzzles, and uncovering the gloomy secrets lurking within the fictional town of Drumberg.
Facing the Rain Used to Cost $2.99, Now It’s Free
Released in 2024, Facing the Rain is described by developer Permett-Studio as “a story-driven RPG, without battles but with impactful decisions.” The game started its journey on Valve’s storefront with a $5 price tag, only to later cut its price to around $3. However, on September 21, Permett-Studio shared exciting news with fans of pixel-art role-playing games: Facing the Rain would become a free-to-play title on September 28. “I have decided to make the entire game free-to-play permanently,” the developer said, adding that support and updates will continue in the future.

Facing the Rain also has multiple endings.
The visuals in Facing the Rain are comparable to games like Stardew Valley, featuring the same top-down perspective. That said, unlike Stardew Valley, it follows a scripted story built around meaningful choices. Based on the game’s Steam page, Facing the Rain also has multiple endings.
Steam users should note that Facing the Rain falls into the category of short indie games, as the developer has disclosed that the average playtime is around two to three hours. That said, its random elements and hidden secrets could entice some fans of the genre to start brand-new playthroughs after beating it for the first time.
