Vibrant life sim Witchbrook has locked down a January 2027 release date for PC, consoles, and Xbox Game Pass. Designed for between one and four players and likely to appeal to Stardew Valley fans, it is the fourth title officially confirmed to be coming to Xbox Game Pass during the first month of 2027.

Witchbrook is part spellbinding RPG and part magical life sim, developed by former Stardew Valley publisher Chucklefish in partnership with German studio Robotality. The project has been in the works for about a decade, having first been revealed in 2017. In March 2025, Chucklefish confirmed that Witchbrook would be a day-one Xbox Game Pass title, back when it was still targeting a 2025 release. That launch window was formally pushed to 2026 seven months later, with the publisher only now confirming a further delay into 2027.

Witchbrook Joins Xbox Game Pass January 2027 Lineup

Likely One of the Service’s Final Day-One Games with a Native Xbox One Version

What is different this time around is that Witchbrook finally has a release date: January 28, 2027. Chucklefish confirmed as much in a brand-new trailer that premiered during Nintendo’s latest Indie World presentation in late October 2026. Witchbrook will be a day-one release for PC and the latest two generations of Xbox consoles, as well as Xbox Game Pass. Outside of Microsoft’s ecosystem, it will also launch on the PS4, PS5, and both Switch generations.

Release date aside, the new trailer also offered a closer look at several aspects of the game that Chucklefish had yet to show in much detail. These include Witchbrook College’s ghostly Chancellor, whom students call the “Deadmaster,” along with the spellcasting system, various spells, studying, and a knowledge mechanic. Potion-making, tarot, magical creatures, and snippets from several covenmate storylines also appear in the footage, illustrating how school life and social progression will work in tandem. Taken together, these elements underscore longstanding comparisons likening Witchbrook to a combination of Stardew Valley and Hogwarts Legacy.

The similarities extend beyond the premise and presentation, with Witchbrook combining seasonal routines, relationships, exploration, and home customization with its magic-school progression. Classes and studying improve abilities that can be used throughout the fictional town of Mossport, while friendships can develop into character storylines and even player-planned dates. At launch, an Xbox Game Pass Ultimate or PC Game Pass subscription will be the only way to play Witchbrook without buying it outright. Chucklefish has set the digital version’s launch price at $24.99. Physical Standard and Collector’s Editions are also in development, although both will arrive sometime after the initial digital release.

Xbox Game Pass Already Has 4 Games Dated for January 2027

Witchbrook brings the number of Xbox Game Pass titles with official January 2027 release dates to four. Counterplay Games’ third-person roguelite shooter Armatus is scheduled for January 7, followed by RGG Studio’s Stranger Than Heaven on January 15. Dictatorial city builder Tropico 7 is then slated to debut on January 28, arriving on the same day as Witchbrook.
