Steam has a lot of games on it. You likely already knew that. But you might be shocked by just how fast Steam’s inventory is expanding week by week. New data shows that recently, over 700 games were released on Steam in a single week, setting a new record that will likely be beaten in the near future.
On August 31, as spotted by GamesIndustry, ICO Partners CEO Thomas Bidaux, who has been tracking Steam releases for some time now, shared a new bit of data. In the week spanning Aug 24 through the 30, ICO tracked 720 new game releases on Steam. That averages out to about 102 games released each day of the week, or about 4 every hour. For context: In 2013, only 436 games were released on Steam the entire year.
Things get bleak when you dig more deeply into the data. Nearly 75 percent of these new games have 10 reviews or less. 530 games reportedly have zero to nine player reviews, while only 10 had more than 1,000 reviews. It’s likely that most of the 720 games that launched last week on Steam haven’t been played by more than a few family and friends of the developer. So not only is Steam filling up with lots of games quickly, but most of them aren’t being purchased or played much.
In early August, Biduax posted that 670 games launched on Steam in one week, setting a record that has now already been beaten. At the time, Biduax predicted there would be a week on Steam when over 700 games launch. That prediction came true, with Biduax posting on Bluesky that this new record of 720 games in one week came “a month earlier than expected.”
At this rate, it seems likely that there will come a week in the future that sees 800 games launched on Steam.
In 2024, data showed that over 19,000 games were released on Steam that year. And around 80 percent of those titles were basically unplayed. 2026 isn’t slowing down. Over 12,000 games have launched on Valve’s digital PC store in the first half of 2026, which is a 19-percent increase compared to 2025. Last year, around 21,000 games were released on Steam.
