- Firing Range (Practice Mode)
Helldivers 2 is an excellent reminder that games designed around fun will always find success. The live-service shooter does not try to offer a simulator-like war experience, a rabbit hole of a progression system, hardware-encumbering graphics, or wallet-busting microtransactions. What it offers is pure chaos with gameplay systems that are welcoming to both casual and hardcore players. That is why Helldivers 2 has reached numerous milestones in only three months with more accolades on the horizon.
That, however, is not to say the game is perfect. Helldivers 2 continues to patch glitches and bugs with every update while rolling out new content every month. Developer Arrowhead Game Studios will likely want to stabilize the game before introducing any major changes. We understand the balancing act, so here are a few quality-of-life features and improvements Helldivers 2 would greatly benefit from in the long run.
Helldivers 2: Superstore Rotation (All Armor & Items)
Looking to spend your hard-earned Supercredits in Helldivers 2? Here’s what is available for sale on the Superstore.
1 Firing Range (Practice Mode)
Testing Weapons and Stratagems Before Diving
The destroyer is large enough for a firing range where players can test weapons and stratagems. It would give players more clarity about various combat mechanics, such as reloading times, bullet drops, recoil, damage counts, accuracy, armor penetration values, etc.
Imagine being able to spawn an enemy type to test how much damage a specific weapon can do and where. There would no longer be a need to rely on guesswork since the in-game descriptions and stats are vague and often incorrect.
Such a practice mode would also make it easier to test the latest buffs and nerfs in Helldivers 2. It beats having to field-test every weapon and stratagem.
2 Resource Conversions
Trading Samples, Medals, and Slips
Spreading democracy is an expensive business. It takes a lot of time and effort to earn enough resources to unlock all ship upgrades, weapons, and stratagems in Helldivers 2. This becomes particularly grueling when finding all three types of Samples. Letting players sell one resource for another would ease their grind.
Not to forget that Helldivers 2 has a cap on every resource and currency. Resources earned beyond that cap get automatically removed. So, players hitting the cap can convert their extra resources to make their missions meaningful.
For example: considering how hard it is to farm Super Samples in Helldivers 2, having an option to convert some Common or Rare Samples into Pink Samples.
Start spending each resource before it hits the following cap:
- Medals: 250
- Requisition Slips: 50,000
- Common Samples: 500
- Rare Samples: 250
- Super Samples: 100
3 Tactical Pings and Comms
Calling Better Orders on the Fly
Helldivers 2 features a comms wheel that is mostly ignored due to its underwhelming tactical commands. Most players rely more on marking locations on the mini-map and hoping the rest of the team follows. The built-in voice chat is always a better option, but not a comforting one when randomly matched with strangers.
Improving the comms wheel by adding better callouts would help improve communications and tactics, especially in higher-difficulty missions. This can include the ability to ping where a player is going or where the team should go, marking positions to be attacked or defended, requesting support, or prioritizing an enemy in a swarm.
4 Clans and Guilds
Building New Democratic Communities
Helldivers 2 offers the best gameplay experience when played with friends. However, a party limit of four and a rather wonky invite system leaves much to be desired.
Having a clan or guild system would boost social aspects and player engagement. Leaders can direct squads to complete Major Orders or liberate specific planets to control supply lines in Helldivers 2. Squads can be created for farming runs, or helping new players in completing their missions.
Interestingly, a fellow Reddit player revealed a couple of months back that one of the developers had “heard some lunch-room discussions about something like this”. Perhaps Arrowhead Game Studios is waiting to stabilize the crossplay functionality before rolling out a clan or guild system in Helldivers 2.
5 Photo Mode
Creating Propaganda Posters
Helldivers 2 features beautiful environments that deserve a photo mode. Taking screenshots does not have the same effect when there is no way to hide the HUD or have characters pose. Sure, there are several emotes that let players pose together, but a free-flowing camera would make it even better. The Ministry of Defense would surely support the idea of showing off that new armor you bought from the Super Store.
6 Weapon Upgrades and Mods
Visiting the Gunsmith
Surprisingly, the Ministry of Defence only allows players to unlock new guns in Helldivers 2, especially when weapon upgrades were available in the first game. Most primary weapons would perform better with slight mods such as long-range scopes for accuracy, suppressors for stealth, or larger magazines for raining bullets. Having a gunsmith on the destroyer to modify weapons would also be an excellent sinkhole for Requisition Slips.
7 Weapon Loadouts
Locked and Loaded
Several factors must be observed while choosing weapons, stratagems, boosters, and armor during the preparation phase. Most players stick to their favorites, but that is only because of the cramped interface and the number of jumps involved.
Being able to create and save weapon loadouts would be a massive quality-of-life improvement in Helldivers 2. It would save time and encourage players to experiment on the fly. For example, players can create loadouts for dealing with Automatons or Terminids. They can become supports to resupply teammates, or demolition specialists to take out armored enemies. Not to forget the powerful Flamethrower build if duty calls.
8 Raid Modes
Larger Maps With Multiple Teams
It is strange that every mission only sends out four players at maximum. There are bound to be planets out there that require a lot more players to work together. Hence, imagine the possibilities of multiple squads diving together into a much larger map to complete raid-like objectives. Large maps would also be excellent for utilizing the upcoming land vehicles.
Nobody knows what the Terminids and Automatons are planning. If something bigger than Bile Titans or Factory Striders starts walking, Super Earth will need to send in a lot more firepower.
