Steam users have until April 27 at 10 am PT /1 pm ET to claim the suspenseful horror/hidden camera game 8AM (sometimes stylized as 8:AM). Overall, it’s one of the most unique games offered as part of Steam’s Free-to-Keep promotion, which makes a handful of PC games free to download, play, and keep forever every week.
What’s even more interesting is how it pushes back on the typical narrative around free games on Steam. Sometimes, the games are on the cheap end and not exactly high quality—”sometimes” being the key word, even if the narrative is that quality can be lower. For every one of those, there are some solid games added to the Free-to-Keep promotion on Steam. This one is incredibly interesting, even if it is typically valued at just $3.99. $4 is nearly $5, and $5 is $5.
Best Co-Op Games On Steam To Play Right Now
From online multiplayer titles to local masterpieces, Steam has plenty of fantastic co-op games that should be played in 2026.
Claim 8AM on Steam at Absolutely No Cost
8AM puts players in a bare room with no explanation—just a computer connected to a house’s security cameras. From midnight to sunrise, players watch a family as things start to shift and strange occurrences begin within the house. It might be odd behavior, it might be sleepwalking, and/or it might be paranormal activity. It’s up to players to decide what’s what; each correct call on what’s normal and what’s supernatural gets players closer to 8am (the actual time). Overall, that packages suspense as a focus into a psychological horror game built around doubt (specifically doubting yourself), where players may second guess and must live with the consequences.
The concept is incredibly interesting, and its execution supports that, too. It currently has a Very Positive standing on the platform, with 86% of its 100+ reviews being positive. In general, it seems if you enjoy “spot the anomaly” horror games like The Exit 8, then you’re likelly to enjoy this. Many players praise its tension and simplicity, explaining that it is genuinely horror-related stress-inducing as the night goes on.
If someone enjoys 8AM, it’s worth noting that publisher HeadArrow has also released “sequels” of sort where 8AM happens in new locations: The Office, The Swimming Pool, and The Mall. The Subway, The Warehouse, and The Graveyard are all in development, too.
More Free Games This Week on Steam
Perhaps horror games or 8AM isn’t exactly your speed, nothing wrong with that. However, 8AM is just the latest offering on Steam’s Free-to-Keep promotion, not the only one currently available. Steam users can also, as of this writing, download SurrounDead Poly Construction, Nocturnal, and Aeonic completely free of charge.
SurrounDead Poly Construction is a small-scale, system-focused sandbox with limited crafting, combat, and puzzles, while Nocturnal is a tightly designed, yet short 2D action platformer where a flame-wielding warrior explores a mist-covered island. The final one, at least for now, is Aeonic—a text-driven, choice-based adventure game that explores different eras of human history.
