World of Warcraft is Getting More Expensive for Millions of Players

World of Warcraft is Getting More Expensive for Millions of Players

World of Warcraft subscription prices are increasing in the United Kingdom, Kazakhstan, Georgia, and Turkey on June 22, 2026. The cost of World of Warcraft subscriptions in these regions is rising due to global and regional market conditions, as well as the value of their respective currencies.

As a US-based company, World of Warcraft subscriptions are approximated at $15 a month before tax, with discounts and perks available to players who purchase bulk WoW subscriptions. Miraculously, World of Warcraft’s subscription costs in the United States have not changed in over 20 years, despite fluctuating markets and inflation.

WoW Subscription Increases for UK, Kazakhstan, Georgia, and Turkey

Unfortunately, that is not the case in other countries. Blizzard periodically adjusts WoW subscription costs according to market factors, which is what is happening in the United Kingdom, Kazakhstan, and Georgia on June 22, 2026. According to the announcement forum post, prices of each type of subscription will increase in the following ways:

Turkey is likewise getting a price increase, albeit with an extra twist. Rather than using the Turkish lira as it has before, the Battle.net store will use the euro in Turkey moving forward. Right now, one month of WoW costs 350 TRY, approximately $7.78. As €12.99 translates to $15.17, Turkish players will have to spend nearly double their previous monthly subscription cost. What’s more, Turkish WoW prices were only 149 TRY back in 2023, but after several increases over the last few years – including another near-doubling last year – players will have to spend almost five times as much as they did a few years ago when this change goes into effect.

According to the most recent reports from World of Warcraft, between seven and nine million people are currently subscribed to the MMO. While it is impossible to know exactly how many play in each region without Blizzard sharing specifics at the GDC or other convention, there are easily hundreds of thousands of people playing in the UK alone, if not upwards of a million. With all of these countries combined, the number of fans affected by this price increase is easily a sizable portion of the game’s player base.

The announcement of this price increase came shortly after the release of World of Warcraft Patch 12.0.5. Unfortunately, this World of Warcraft update was full of glitches and exploits, prompting dissatisfaction with the patch and recent release cadence. Many have likened this price increase to pouring salt in the wound, as it was poorly timed with a troubled release. Hopefully, players in these affected regions can continue to afford their World of Warcraft subscriptions after this increase to see how Blizzard follows through with subsequent updates.
