Fortnite Removes D4vd Cover Art and Changes Emote Status

Fortnite Removes D4vd Cover Art and Changes Emote Status

Many fans were not happy to see that D4vd items were still available in Fortnite after his accusations came to light, but, now that he has been formally charged, Epic Games has taken action. Fortnite has collaborated with many artists over the years, including emotes, cosmetics, and even live concerts.

It all started in Chapter 1 with the Marshmello live event, which led to the launch of the Icon Series, featuring artists’ cosmetics and items, inspired by their look and songs. With time, the Fortnite Icon Series brought more artists and bands as well as celebrities from all sorts of industries, including streaming, eSports, reality TV, soccer, wrestling, and much more. D4vd, a singer and former Fortnite streamer, was rumored to have a skin in the works. However, in 2025, he became a suspect in a murder investigation, and the project didn’t move forward.

Fortnite Leak Reveals More Details About Potential Overwatch Crossover

A recent leak from Fortnite is providing more information about the rumored crossover with Overwatch, teasing more skins and the release date.

Players Will Soon Be Able to Hide D4vd Emotes in Fortnite

Despite not receiving a skin, D4vd got an in-game bundle with his favorite cosmetics, as well as emotes and jam tracks featuring his songs. When D4vd, real name David Burke, was named a suspect in the murder case, some players who had acquired D4vd cosmetics in Fortnite wanted them removed from their accounts immediately. Unfortunately, Epic Games did not take action last year, but now that D4vd has been formally charged with the murder of Celeste Rivas Hernandez, it has announced that D4vd emotes will soon be classed as controversial, so players will have the option to hide them in-game. Additionally, his jam track covers have also been hidden in the locker.

This week, players who had asked for a refund of the D4vd items that they purchased last year reported that they received positive responses from Epic’s support team. Then, the official Fortnite status account announced that gamers would be able to self-refund any D4vd items starting April 28.

However, even though players would be able to refund these items if they no longer wanted them in their accounts, it didn’t prevent them from seeing them in-game if they came across players who chose to keep them. To help with this matter, D4vd emotes will have the Controversial Emote status, which means gamers will be able to hide the emotes in Fortnite‘s settings. Unfortunately, this also means that they will not be able to see other emotes with this status, such as Take the L and Laugh It Up. Since jam tracks cannot be hidden, Epic has removed their covers, as they depict D4vd.

This might not be the ideal solution, but it is better than nothing. For now, players who have purchased these controversial items in Fortnite can make a return request and permanently delete them from their lockers if they so desire.
