The DLC rehashes the gameplay sections from the game’s main campaign while adding very little content to make the mode more dynamic. The mode to Ethan Must Die from Resident Evil 7, because of its difficult roguelike-style challenge, permadeath mechanics, tougher enemies, and unlockable perks.
Others say they were expecting a traditional Mercenaries mode similar to Resident Evil 4 and Village instead, something that has become a fan-favorite feature in previous entries. While some fans remain disappointed by the absence of Mercenaries, others are optimistic about the new mode and see it as an interesting addition to the game.

Even though the mode is free, it sort of feels incomplete and lacking when compared to similar modes like The Valhalla DLC for God of War Ragnarok. While Leon Must Die Forever may feel like a step-down compared to the DLC released for other games in the Resident Evil franchise, at least it was free and there is more content coming soon regardless.
