Fans Think New GTA 6 Emails From Sony Signal Something Big

I know we’ve danced this dance a dozen times at this point, but, for once, there is some genuine evidence that Take-Two and Rockstar Games are gearing up to drop some Grand Theft Auto 6 news in the next few days. However, the reason why it seems a bit more compelling this time around is because said evidence is coming directly from Take-Two’s marketing partner, Sony.

As spotted by long-serving Rockstar Games reporter Videotech on X, several users have reported that they’ve been receiving oddly specific marketing emails from Sony regarding Grand Theft Auto 6. Likewise, others have reported receiving notifications directly through their PlayStation accounts.

While some have stated that they have still received this email even if they already own a PlayStation 5, Sony’s marketing campaign seems to be specifically targeting users who have yet to upgrade from a PlayStation 4 to a PlayStation 5. “Grand Theft Auto VI is on your wishlist,” reads the email. “Get a PlayStation 5 today to be ready for when Grand Theft Auto VI launches on November 19, 2026.”

If you’re wondering why it’s a big deal that Sony is sending this out, that’s because they’ve been not-so-secretly partnered with Rockstar Games for GTA VI’s marketing campaign since the second trailer for the game dropped in May 2025. If the “Captured on PS5” tag at the end of the trailer isn’t evidence enough for you, then Bloomberg also confirmed this during his interview with Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick earlier this week: “Zelnick said the window of console exclusivity was not related to the company’s marketing deal with PlayStation maker Sony Group Corp.”

GTA 6 even made a surprise appearance in Sony’s recent earnings presentation alongside games like Saros and Marvel’s Wolverine. It was the only third-party game shown in the slide.

And speaking of interviews, Zelnick has been sitting down for a lot of them lately. Alongside the interview with Bloomberg, Zelnick also took the time to chat with Business Insider on May 5 and with Game File on May 6. It’s also oddly suspicious that Game Informer mentioned in their latest newsletter that a “[REDACTED]” game will be “gracing its cover next week.” Usually, you could pass that off as marketing hype, but Game Informer was the first publication to showcase Grand Theft Auto 5 back in 2012.

Honestly, I really do think there’s something to all this. By the time May 19 rolls around, we’ll officially be exactly six months away from Grand Theft Auto VI’s release date, so it makes a lot of sense that Take-Two and Sony would start ramping up the advertising campaign now. Plus, considering how much a PlayStation 5 costs these days, it’s probably a good idea for Sony to give everyone ample warning if they need to start saving up.
