Diablo 4 Season 13’s Best Class for Clearing Torment Tier 12 is a Blast from the Past

Diablo 4 Season 13’s Best Class for Clearing Torment Tier 12 is a Blast from the Past

The challenge of Diablo 4 has been dramatically increased in Season 13, with the release of Lord of Hatred raising the maximum Torment difficulty tier to 12. As a result, Diablo 4 players will want to invest in only the absolute S-Tier builds if they hope to stand a chance against the threats that Torment 12 offers. Thankfully, there is an easy build that can destroy even Uber Mephisto on Torment 12 with ease, and it’s a class that has been waiting to make its grand return for some time now.

Lord of Hatred’s Skill Tree rework has shifted the balance of power among Diablo 4‘s classes, propelling some previously low-tier classes and builds to the top of the meta, while dropping what used to be some of the best builds in the game down the rankings. In particular, the Paladin has been nerfed hard in Diablo 4 Season 13, with its classic Aura Paladin build a shell of its former self. However, the Barbarian has shot up Diablo 4‘s meta ladder to become the real star of the season, with the old reliable Whirlwind Barbarian offering players the best chance of surviving Torment 12.

This S-Tier Diablo 4: Lord of Hatred Warlock Build is Basically a Demon Meat Grinder

Diablo 4: Lord of Hatred has some impressive Warlock builds available, and one let’s players slaughter their own demons for massive buffs.

Whirlwind Barbarian is Perfect for Clearing Diablo 4’s Hardest Torment Tiers

The Whirlwind Barbarian is a classic Diablo archetype that’s known for its “spin to win” gameplay, allowing players to spin their Barbarian around the map while slaying hordes of enemies without having to worry too much about skill rotation. This type of build has historically been ideal for players looking for a fairly low-risk Diablo 4 experience, but the changes to Diablo 4‘s Skill Tree and the addition of the Talisman mechanic really let this build shine. The best part about this build is that it doesn’t require too many Mythics to excel in higher Torment tiers, so players can get this build off the ground fairly quickly.

Best Skills for a Torment Tier 12 Whirlwind Barbarian

  • Whirlwind
  • Rallying Cry
  • Challenging Shout
  • War Cry
  • Iron Skin
  • Call of the Ancients

Whirlwind is obviously going to be the Core Barbarian Skill used on this build, since it will be the class’s main source of damage and mobility. With upgrades, Whirlwind can deal 40% more damage at an increased Fury cost. While this makes the build very resource-heavy, it also helps scale the damage Barbarians can do while spinning with Whirlwind.

The Barbarian’s three Shout Skills are all useful on this build. In particular, Rallying Cry can be used to increase the Barbarian’s movement speed so they can spin around the battlefield even faster. Rallying Cry and Challenging Shout are perfect for buffing the Barbarian for extra damage against tougher enemies like Elites and Lair Bosses.

Iron Skin is already a solid defensive skill that helps with the Barbarian’s survivability when using Whirlwind. However, it also gains an additional utility when upgraded to the Juggernaut variant, granting the Barbarian Unstoppable as well as Barrier generation. Call of the Ancients is the Ultimate Skill of choice for this build, but it isn’t a major source of damage and primarily serves as a way to further buff the Barbarian with its Attack Speed and Damage Bonus upgrade.

Best Uniques and Legendaries for a Torment Tier 12 Whirlwind Barbarian

+[13.5 – 22.5]% Critical Strike Chance Against Close Enemies
+[8.0 – 12.5]% Movement Speed
+[10.5 – 15.0]% Attack Speed
+[3 – 5] to Whirlwind

Whirlwind deals [75 – 90%] increased damage and pulls enemies to you every 2 seconds.
“The brutish construction of these gloves belies the strength they bestow. Gohr was clearly no craftsman, but it would be foolish to ignore the triumph of his work.” – Barrett’s Book of Implements

Barbarian

  • Gohr’s Devastating Grips
  • Tibault’s Will
  • Crown of Lucion
  • Ramaladni’s Magnum Opus
  • Aspect of Anger Management
  • Aspect of Channeling

There are four key Uniques that all Whirlwind Barbarians will want for this build: Gohr’s Devastating Grips, Tibault’s Will, Crown of Lucion, and Ramaladni’s Magnum Opus. Gohr’s Deveastating Grips are the most important for this build, as they increase the damage of Whirlwind and pull enemies in every two seconds. Tibault’s Will is also very important as it helps with Fury generations to keep Whirlwind going. Using Iron Skin to grant the Barbarian Unstoppable is the ideal way to activate Tibault’s Will’s Unique effect.

+[51 – 65] All Stats
+[489 – 526] Maximum Life
+[8 – 16] Maximum Resource
+[10.5 – 15.0]% Damage Reduction while Unstoppable

You deal [10 – 20]%[x] increased damage while Unstoppable and for 5 seconds after. When you become Unstoppable, gain 50 of your Primary Resource.
“The younger apprentices think wearing heavy plate in the swamps is foolish. They fail to understand that our armor is our legacy, and without it we are nothing.” – Crusader Pembroke

Tibault’s Will is also useful in conjunction with Ramaladni’s Magnum Opus, which increases the damage of the Barbarian’s Skills for each point of Fury the player has, but constantly drains Fury. Crown of Lucion also functions similarly, increasing the power of Skills with a resource cost but increasing that resource cost in turn. This makes Fury generation a core part of keeping this build performing at its peak.

Players can swap the Crown of Lucion for the Mythic Heir of Perdition, moving the Unique effect of Crown of Lucion into the Talisman via its Unique Charm.

The Legendary Aspect of Anger Management and the Legendary Aspect of Channeling are also great ways to boost Whirlwind Barbarian’s damage output. Anger Management grants the Barbarian a damage boost and the Berserking status while above 50 Primary Resource, at the cost of 3 less Resource Generation. Channeling increases the damage of Skills while they are Channeled, meaning Whirlwind gets a nice boost with this Aspect.

What Makes the Whirlwind Barbarian a Top-Tier Build for Diablo 4 in Season 13

Whirlwind Barbarians have historically excelled at stacking damage modifiers upon damage modifiers to create an insane damage scaling curve. Where this build has struggled in the past is in its resource generation, which takes a hit from all of these sources of increased damage. However, the addition of the Talisman and Set Bonuses has really been the saving grace of Whirlwind Barbarians, mitigating a lot of this resource sink and propelling it to the top of the Season 13 meta.

Specifically, the Sescheron’s Fury Charm Set carries Whirlwind Barbarian hard in Diablo 4 Season 13. At three Set Charms, Sescheron’s Fury gives the Barbarian 10 Fury every time they are hit, along with 30% Maximum Life. At five Set Charms, this Set increases the Barbarian’s Fury by 50, while also granting the class the Colossal status with 50% Skill size increase and 600% damage increase, allowing Whirlwind to hit enemies in an even greater range for far more damage. This Charm Set really pushes the Whirlwind Barbarian over the threshold from solid to top-tier in the Diablo 4 Season 13 meta.
