Destiny 3 Petition is Blowing Up

Destiny 3 Petition is Blowing Up

A Guardian named Haley Casto has begun an official petition on Change.org asking Sony to fund and greenlight Destiny 3, following recent announcements regarding Destiny 2. In a short time, this petition has already racked up an impressive number of signatures in a relatively short time span.

When Bungie first announced that Destiny 2 was winding down development and would receive its final service update on June 9, many naturally assumed Destiny 3 would be next as Bungie continued to work on Marathon. However, a Bloomberg report has since revealed that Destiny 3 is not in active development and Bungie is planning layoffs following this final update. It remains to be seen how accurate this is, but as members of the Destiny 2 community say farewell to it, they also want there to be a new beginning in Destiny 3.

Destiny 3 Petition

As of this writing, Casto’s “Petition Sony to Develop Destiny 3” petition on Change.org has been live for just 7 hours but has amassed over 24,000 signatures. As members of the community spread and share the petition, it seems likely it’ll only continue to go up in number. Whether or not Bungie can or will acknowledge the petition, much less Sony for that matter, remains to be seen, but it’s clear how many folks are attached to the Destiny IP. Destiny 2 may have wrapped up story arcs years in the making, but its universe is ripe for more exploration.

As Casto wrote, “The Destiny franchise has captivated millions of gamers around the world with its immersive universe, thrilling gameplay, and strong sense of community. However, with the end of updates for Destiny 2, it’s time to take the next step and keep this beloved series thriving. That step is the development of Destiny 3.” They believe the development and eventual release of Destiny 3 would expand the horizons of its universe with new adventures, fresh storylines, and new gameplay features, asking for other fans of the franchise to add their signature to the petition.

“Our passion and commitment to the Destiny franchise drives us to reach out to Sony and express our collective voice,” Casto wrote, and “We believe in the potential of Destiny 3 to inspire a new generation of gamers and to keep the fire of the Guardian spirit alive. Joining us in petitioning Sony to take this leap forward….Together, let’s make Destiny 3 a reality.”

In Destiny lore, Ghosts have worked non-stop, continuously, every day to revive Destiny 2 players. They’ve revived Guardians countless times and never asked for much, but signing this petition is at least one way to, hopefully, ensure that your ghost doesn’t fade into a digital abyss. Of course, that’s being a bit flowery about a game; in reality, Destiny 2 was the result of years of hard work by the fine folks at Bungie. This petition asks for Bungie’s work to continue with the next iteration of the franchise.
