Fans craving the next entry in the Kingdom Come: Deliverance franchise won’t have to wait too long, as Warhorse Studios has announced that the next game in the series could launch as soon as next year. The future of the Kingdom Come: Deliverance series has been in question ever since rumors began circulating about Warhorse Studios’ next project.
Mixing a dense, historically accurate open world with a fun set of characters and intricate gameplay mechanics, Kingdom Come: Deliverance has been a widely celebrated RPG since its release in 2018. Most recently, Warhorse Studios launched Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 in early 2025, building on everything the first game did and making it even better while also addressing the main complaints fans had about the original. Warhorse’s work paid off as Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 launched to great critical acclaim and was a frontrunner in Game of the Year discussions, right next to Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. A year later, a few rumors began to circulate that Warhorse was developing a game set in the Lord of the Rings universe, which Warhorse itself confirmed during a developer livestream on May 21, 2026.
Kingdom Come Studio Warhorse Might Be Going for Bethesda’s Crown With Its Lord of the Rings Game
Warhorse’s Lord of the Rings game could turn its Kingdom Come formula into Bethesda’s most serious open-world RPG competition yet.
Warhorse Studios Announces Release Window for Next Kingdom Come Game
During that stream, the development studio also announced that a new game set in the Kingdom Come: Deliverance franchise is on the way, leaving fans wanting more details about when it’s releasing and what it’s all about. Now, the studio is clarifying the statements made during the May livestream, as Warhorse Studios Communications Director Tobias Stolz-Zwilling and Community Manager Tom Grey went live to confirm that the next game in the Kingdom Come series will be an open-world RPG, and it should be released as soon as the fiscal year 2027. That should put the game’s potential release window between April 2027 and March 2028.

Details about what the next entry in the Kingdom Come series will look like, and whether its scale is the same as the previous two Kingdom Come entries, are still under wraps; however, Stolz-Zwilling did state that Prokop Jirsa (Lead Designer and new Creative Director at Warhorse) is leading the project. Meanwhile, Design Director Viktor Bocan is in charge of the Middle-earth game after being appointed as a Creative Director at the studio following work on both KCD projects. Warhorse Studios has been quick to reassure fans that, even though it now holds the Lord of the Rings IP, Kingdom Come: Deliverance remains a priority for the studio.
Stolz-Zwilling has stated, “We still continue expanding the universe of Kingdom Come… Do not forget that Kingdom Come: Deliverance always was and still is and always will be an absolute passion project here in the studio.” Recent developments at the studio also seem to prove as such. Along with announcing a third game in the series, Warhorse has announced that a Kingdom Come: Deliverance movie is in the works, with former director Daniel Vávra leaving game development entirely to work on it.

Kingdom Come has been a mega success for Warhorse Studios and has clearly been enough for the team to be granted rights to the Lord of the Rings franchise. While fans likely know what to expect with the next Kingdom Come game, they may not know what’s coming with Warhorse’s Middle-Earth RPG, and that’s exciting. How the next game in the Kingdom Come franchise plays out and how it sets the blueprint for Warhorse’s Lord of the Rings game will be an interesting story.
