Overwatch Change Gives Players a Better Shot at Anniversary Legendary Title

Overwatch Change Gives Players a Better Shot at Anniversary Legendary Title

Overwatch director Aaron Keller confirmed that Blizzard is making changes to some of the requirements associated with the Anniversary Event, meaning some legendary titles are now more achievable. Since its evolution at the beginning of 2026 and its Reign of Talon narrative, Overwatch continues its forward momentum through updated content and newly added heroes like Season 2’s Sierra.

2026 has already been a big year for Overwatch in general as it underwent a massive overhaul and rework. While the change has been a biog success for Blizzard, the franchise as a whole is also celebrating its 10-year anniversary, having originally launched all the way back on May 24, 2016. To celebrate the huge milestone, Blizzard kicked off a special Anniversary Event in Overwatch, with the game bringing back 21 exclusive launch hero skins, unique weapon charms, titles, community-made cosmetics, and 15 earnable Anniversary loot boxes as well. As good-intentioned as the event was, it seems to have missed the mark in a few areas for many fans.

Blizzard names the newest Creative Director for the Overwatch franchise, and his history is giving fans hope for an animated series.

Overwatch Changes Anniversary Event Challenge Requirements

With the debut of the 10-year anniversary event, Overwatch has become embroiled in controversy once again, as many fans are disappointed with a lack of content and meaningful rewards. The fan outcry became loud enough that game director Aaron Keller took to social media to address things, which ultimately led to a major increase in loot boxes being available. One point of contention was with the special Rare, Epic, and Legendary Player Titles that could be earned at 24, 36, and then 48 challenges completed. The main problem is that there were only 24 base challenges included in the event, requiring players to complete another set of 24 challenges, restricted to the Decennium Contributor – Repeating challenge, requiring another 10 wins to complete it once.

Doing the math, a player would need to play 120 matches, either winning every game or just playing Overwatch‘s Stadium mode. Realistically, the number will be a lot higher than that, with a maximum of 240 games in total. Naturally, most players viewed it as a slog and an unreasonable grind. As it turns out, Blizzard’s Team 4 seemed to agree. Once again taking to social media, Keller confirmed that the Table Flip title’s requirement is being lowered from 48 challenges to just 36. As part of that change, Overwatch‘s Anniversary event will now run through the end of the season, due to come to a close on June 16, 2026.

However, in an effort to appease those who may now feel slighted at grinding out the Table Flip title, Keller confirmed that an even more rare special Double Table Flip title will be given out to those who qualify in a future patch. All-in-all, the changes were meant to address the fact that many players likely didn’t realize the amount of work required to earn the title, in addition to giving more time to those who may have just missed out on it.

Overwatch has no shortage of exclusive skins and other items to help players stand out from others, though it’s very likely that some will feel disappointed in not being able to earn the newly added exclusive title. However, that appears to be intentional, as Keller did mention that the team does want some rewards to feel rare and meaningful to earn, so players should expect to see future events with some rewards with some high requirements, though as fans have now seen, perhaps the requirements won’t be so unreasonable.
