Capcom opened Summer Game Fest 2026 with the reveal of the long-rumored Resident Evil Code: Veronica remake. Capcom has found great success remaking its Resident Evil games over the years, with the 2002 Resident Evil remake generally considered one of the best horror games ever made. In 2019, Capcom released a remake of Resident Evil 2 that earned even higher praise, and followed that up with remakes of Resident Evil 3 and 4. A Resident Evil Code: Veronica remake is something fans have been asking to see for years, and now we know with 100% certainty that it’s finally on the way.

Like previous Resident Evil remakes, the Resident Evil Code: Veronica remake, titled Resident Evil: Veronica, will retain many elements of the game it’s remaking, but updating everything to meet expectations of a modern audience. The debut trailer was surprisingly revealing, confirming some exciting details about what Resident Evil: Veronica will have in store when it releases in 2027 for PC, PS5, Switch 2, and Xbox Series X/S.

Resident Evil Code Veronica Remake Trailer

The Resident Evil: Veronica trailer opened with protagonist Claire Redfield visiting an older woman in France. This segment used a first-person perspective, seemingly confirming that Resident Evil: Veronica will once again let players choose between first- and third-person, ala Resident Evil Requiem. It also confirms that Resident Evil: Veronica will expand on the opening from the original game, which saw Claire Redfield invade Umbrella. Based on the trailer, it appears Claire’s attack on Umbrella will be playable this time around, and fans will also get to see the events leading up to that situation and what eventually leads to her being captured and sent to Rockfort Island where the bulk of the story takes place.
