OG Assassin’s Creed Creator Reveals New Game With Serious AC Hexe Vibes

Original Assassin’s Creed designer Patrice Désilets revealed a brand new game at Summer Game Fest, titled 1666 Amsterdam, and players can check out a prologue right now. What’s most surprising is how similar it seems compared to the rumored Assassin’s Creed Hexe, with it no doubt leading some fans to believe 1666 Amsterdam was actually Assassin’s Creed Hexe.

For context, there’s only been one trailer about Assassin’s Creed Hexe that confirms a Witch Trial in the Holy Roman Empire setting. Since then, plenty of Assassin’s Creed Hexe rumors have painted a picture of the game, from the presence of Magic (Isu), which might be downplayed now, to the female protagonist named Anika. While Ubisoft has kept official details limited, the game is widely expected to deliver a more horror-leaning take on the Assassin’s Creed formula than previous installments. But 1666 Amsterdam is available, to a degree, well before AC Hexe.

New Assassin’s Creed Hexe Leaks: Protagonist’s Real Name, Actual Setting, and More

A known Assassin’s Creed leaker claims to reveal new details regarding the in-development Codename Hexe, all of which are incredibly enticing if true.

1666: Amsterdam is a Dark and Magical Game

1666: Amsterdam is a narrative-focused mystery game that follows Noa as she undergoes her Commencement and becomes the next Collector, a member of an ancient order. The free prologue on Steam serves as an introduction to the game’s world, characters, and overarching mystery, giving players a glimpse of the responsibilities that come with maintaining the balance between hidden forces operating behind the scenes.

While the Steam demo only lasts around 30 minutes, it lays the groundwork for the larger story that unfolds in the full release. The overall story will span three different timelines—1666, 1999, and the present day—with each era revealing pieces of a larger puzzle. Early on, players must choose a companion who will accompany Noa on her journey, a decision that carries significance beyond the prologue itself. The full game will expand on these ideas through investigation and supernatural encounters during events known as Esbats, but the prologue focuses on establishing the setting, introducing key characters, and hinting at the mysteries that connect centuries of hidden history.

For those unfamiliar, Patrice Désilets is widely regarded as one of the key creative forces behind the original Assassin’s Creed franchise. As the creative director of the first game and a major contributor to Assassin’s Creed 2 and Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood, he helped establish many of the series’ defining elements, including the Animus, the conflict between Assassins and Templars, and the blend of historical settings with modern-day storytelling. Although he left Ubisoft before the franchise’s later entries, his vision and foundational ideas played a crucial role in shaping one of gaming’s most successful series.
