Resident Evil Veronica Leaks Semi-Open World and More Details

It’s looking increasingly likely that the upcoming Resident Evil Veronica will feature a semi-open world, which would mark a big departure from the original game. Resident Evil Veronica was the first big announcement at Summer Game Fest 2026, with Capcom’s upcoming survival-horror game opening the show to much fanfare. However, the Resident Evil Veronica trailer ended up creating more questions than answers.

The Resident Evil Veronica trailer started off with a first-person scene of Claire Redfield visiting an older woman in Paris, France, something that was never seen in the original game. The flash of images that followed confirmed new looks for iconic Code: Veronica locations, but still left much to be revealed in regard to the game’s tone and other details. While Capcom itself is keeping quiet about Resident Evil Veronica for now, a reputable insider has revealed some interesting details about the game and what it may entail when it launches in 2027.

A Resident Evil Game Set in Japan Might Happen

The future of the Resident Evil franchise has been kept in the dark, but producer Masato Kumazawa is hinting at a trip to Japan.

Resident Evil Veronica Could Feature a Semi-Open World

It’s been pointed out that the Resident Evil Veronica Steam page includes the tag “Motorbike,” which RE leaker Dusk Golem has said lines up with what they have heard about the game’s take on Rockfort Island being a “semi-open world.” According to Dusk Golem’s information, Resident Evil Veronica will have protagonist Claire Redfield repairing a motorcycle and using it traverse Rockfort Island. This suggests that the Rockfort Island in the remake will be quite a bit different than the one from the original game, which could make for a very interesting change of pace.

Another detail that Dusk Golem revealed is that Resident Evil Veronica is going to be third-person. The Resident Evil Veronica reveal trailer started off with a first-person segment and did not show any third-person gameplay, leading many to assume that the game would likely offer a choice between first- and third-person perspectives like Resident Evil Requiem before it. If Dusk Golem’s claim is accurate, though, it seems Resident Evil Veronica will strictly be a third-person game.

Some fans of the original Code: Veronica game noticed that the remake trailer seemed to conflict with the OG’s memorable opening sequence, where Claire Redfield raids an Umbrella facility, is shot at by a helicopter, and eventually captured and taken to Rockfort Island. Even though the opening sequence of the trailer showed Claire seemingly getting captured by Umbrella, Dusk Golem suggested on Twitter that the Umbrella facility raid still exists in the remake, just that it’s moved elsewhere. They stressed that the Code: Veronica remake will be shifting around a lot of elements from the original game.

Clearly, there is still a lot left to learn when it comes to Resident Evil Veronica, but hopefully more details will come to light sooner rather than later. Resident Evil Veronica is believed to be releasing in early 2027, and if that’s the case, fans should be able to look forward to updates on the game at big upcoming events like Gamescom in August, Tokyo Game Show in September, and The Game Awards in December.
