Every time the Trump administration bastardizes the imagery of a video game or other nerd property for a meme, it does so in a way that’s wildly out of touch with the source material. Perhaps the most clear-cut example yet of the MAGA crew’s misunderstanding of something they’re using to promote the president can be found in the latest hype reel posted on the White House’s social media which shows, among other things, AI slop footage of President Donald Trump and his cronies performing an All Out Attack from Persona 5, a game that’s explicitly about taking down corrupt politicians and sex offenders.

The clip is at the end of another one of the White House’s stupid montages of both clips of Trump and also anime like Dragon Ball and Yu-Gi-Oh, seemingly created in an effort to make a Toonami-style “commercial” for the administration. Also in here are some clips of presumably left-leaning TikTokers yelling in apparent distress, and news articles about job increases under Trump. All of it wraps up with footage of Persona 5 (seemingly ripped from popular Persona content creator Faz’s videos) showing an All Out Attack starring Trump, Vice President JD Vance, and others. The final image is an edited version of Persona 5 party member Yusuke Kitagawa’s victory screen, which has been altered to include a bald eagle instead of the dragon seen in the original game.

It is deeply ironic that Trump’s social media lackeys would use imagery from a game whose cast literally uses supernatural abilities to take down corrupt leadership, ranging from a sex abuser to a corrupt politician. It’s also worth noting that the AI slop is being used to overwrite the victory pose of Persona 5’s actual artist character. Again, these idiots just do not understand or care about the works they’re lifting from to spread propaganda, and so now the target audience hoots and hollers at the reference as if Donald Trump played 100+ hours of Persona 5 himself. This is a textbook case of the modern use of the term “larping,” in which someone pretends to be interested in something for clout.
