Ocarina Of Time Remake, Nintendo Promptly Deletes It

We don’t know much about the recently revealed Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake coming to Switch 2 later this year. And now we know even less, after Nintendo removed a short description of the game that fans found buried in some website code.

Last week, during Nintendo’s most recent Direct, the company confirmed that yes, the leaks are true, we’re getting a fancy remake of the Nintendo 64 game The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. And…that’s really all we know at the moment. But over the weekend, fans digging through the remake’s store page online found a small summary buried in the code that revealed just a bit more about the remake and had many fans theorizing about what to expect. Here’s the summary they found:

“The N64 classic reborn as a full remake for Nintendo Switch 2. Experience Ocarina of Time with stunning visuals, updated designs, and timeless gameplay.”

However, if you go looking for that text now, as reported by IGN, it’s gone. It seems Nintendo spotted fans digging around and deleted the vague summary from the website’s backend. This, of course, led to some fans assuming that Nintendo didn’t want people to know this information. Others suggested it might just be placeholder text that was never meant for public consumption.

The deleted summary does seem to imply that this Ocarina of Time remake won’t be some completely new video game, like Capcom’s Resident Evil remakes. Instead, some think this description suggests that the Zelda remake will be more like the upcoming Star Fox 64 remake coming to Switch 2 on June 25. That game mostly plays like the original, but features fancy visuals. Then again, maybe “updated designs” implies changes to the world and dungeons? I’m less inclined to believe that, but I’m also not sold on this summary being anything more than a quickly crafted placeholder that we weren’t meant to read and which would have been changed later before being added to the store page.

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake is set to arrive sometime later this year exclusively on the Nintendo Switch 2.
