A new game that’s like Pokemon GO with real-world cats has been revealed. The Pokemon GO-like game, which was released on Android devices, has already seen considerable demand.
Pokemon GO uses GPS and data shared by users to create an augmented reality experience in which players can hunt down Pokemon in real life. Although Pokemon GO revolutionized the idea, it was preceded by Niantic’s game Ingress, which laid the foundation that Pokemon GO would ultimately utilize. This new cat game utilizes similar principles, but with some key differences.

Pokemon GO-Like CatCatch Game Revealed
A new mobile game called CatchCat has been announced, which has been made available on Google Play for Android devices. The game is similar to Pokemon GO in that users can snap photos of cats in a neighborhood, have them classified by the game, and then others who are in the area can play a mini-game to catch virtual representations of the cats. Cats are assigned a rarity, tribe, battle stats, and more, on top of getting their own unique Pokemon TCG-like card. The game extracts the cat from the initial photograph taken in order to create the card.

A number of future features are also planned for the game, including the ability for captured cats to battle one another, which will presumably be somewhat similar to Pokemon GO PVP. An iOS version is also in the works, so those with Apple devices will get a chance to play it later on. Fans of the game and the idea have been chatting with the developer, who has hinted at the possibility of adding features to help lost cats be reunited with their owners, as well as encouraging adoptions of cats looking for homes. Those who have concerns about privacy will likely be glad to know that no images are uploaded to a server, and the cat detection and capture minigame can work offline. The exact location a cat was spotted in isn’t shared with other users, with only a general region being highlighted, to help ensure the safety of the cats in question.
So far, CatchCat has already seen so much popularity that the app developer has had to temporarily take it offline. The dev explained that they’re in the process of fixing bugs that have been discovered by the community, and that the app will be “back better” soon. They’ve also teased some new features coming to the game, including new cards called “Golden Fish” and “Whipped” that look like they will boost cats in battle. Those who are interested in the game can follow the developer’s Twitter account to keep track of when it’s made available again.
With it being the tenth anniversary of Pokemon GO, there’s plenty to check out right now. However, those who are looking for games similar to Pokemon GO but without the Pokemon are in luck, as aside from CatchCat, there are other options available. A number of Pokemon GO clones have come out over the years, and AR walking games are also a popular option for those who are looking to spice up their time outdoors.
