New PS5 Controller Revealed, Pre-Orders Available Now

New PS5 Controller Revealed, Pre-Orders Available Now

PlayStation 5 users can now pre-order a new limited-edition DualSense controller for their collection, giving collectors another option to add to their shelves, albeit with a bit of a caveat. Not only is this a limited-time, regional release, but it has seen a regional rollout for PS5 users worldwide, meaning some have already had a chance to pick up the controller.

It seems entirely possible now, too, that unique PS5 DualSense controllers will become an even bigger collector’s item in the coming years. Sony recently confirmed that disc production would end in January 2028, meaning the PS6 will likely be a digital-only console, and the PS5 will be the last PlayStation hardware to feature a disc drive. As such, anything PS5 related may only continue to skyrocket in price in the coming years, so folks everywhere should be sure to keep up with their collections as long as they can.

It’s Official: PlayStation 5 Consoles Are Now More Expensive

Unfortunately for anyone that wants to get a PlayStation 5, they will now be paying more for Sony’s latest console.

The PS5 DualSense Wireless Icon Blue Special Edition Controller Can Be Pre-Ordered Now

  • Pre-Orders Are Open Now
  • Release Date: August 6
  • Suggested Retail Price: 12,480 Yen
  • Includes Special Edition controller and Instruction Manual
  • Compatible with PS5, PC/Mac, and mobile devices
  • Supports Wired Connect with USB Type C/Wireless Connection via Bluetooth

PlayStation has officially opened pre-orders for the PS5 DualSense Wireless Controller Icon Blue Special Edition ahead of its special August 6 release in Japan, though players outside Japan may notice something familiar about the design (and for good reason). Pre-orders officially opened in Japan on June 30 through participating PlayStation retailers, with the company suggesting a retail price of 12,480 yen (tax included), and each package includes the limited-edition controller alongside an instruction manual.

While the controller itself isn’t brand-new worldwide, this marks its official launch in PlayStation’s home market after previously debuting elsewhere. PlayStation is finally bringing the design to Japan after first releasing it in the United States as a Walmart-exclusive controller. The Japanese launch gives local PlayStation fans their first chance to officially purchase the accessory, and for now, the August 6 launch remains exclusive to Japan.

The DualSense Wireless Controller Icon Blue Special Edition features a layered blue-and-navy finish that sets it apart from the PS5 controller’s standard color options. The touchpad is covered in glossy PlayStation symbols, while the back of the controller includes Japanese lettering spelling “PlayStation.”Outside of its appearance, however, the hardware is unchanged. Like every other DualSense, it includes adaptive triggers, haptic feedback, a built-in microphone, motion controls, and support for PS5, PC, Mac, and compatible mobile devices through wired USB-C or Bluetooth connections.

Whether PlayStation eventually expands availability beyond Japan and other currently available locations remains to be seen, but interested buyers no longer have to wait to secure one through Japanese retailers. The company has also not said how long the controller will remain available, so interested fans should be sure to act quickly.
