Pokemon Winds and Waves‘ typings for each of the Starters’ final evolutions have leaked online, and while it may be too soon to celebrate, it seems like fans should be happy across the board. Of course, fans should take this information about Pokemon Winds and Waves with a grain of salt until Nintendo and Game Freak confirm it themselves.
That said, there are a bunch of rumors and leaks surrounding Pokemon Winds and Waves, and there have been since before the official reveal. The Teraleak 2 revealed tons of information that, while not exact, is largely reliable by the nature of the official reveal. It’ll be interesting to see how it all shapes up when Pokemon Winds and Waves releases in 2027, but its starters are no doubt the biggest attraction right now.
Revisiting the Teraleak 2 After Pokemon Winds and Waves’ Reveal
Last year’s Teraleak 2 claimed to reveal what features to expect in Pokemon Winds and Waves, and here’s what it has gotten right so far.
Pokemon Winds and Waves’ Pombon, Gecqua, and Browt Types
- Pombon: Fire/Fairy
- Gecqua: Water/Psychic
- Browt: Grass/Ground
Courtesy of Light on Twitter, the final Starter typings are said to be Fire/Fairy for Pombon, Water/Psychic for Gecqua, and Grass/Ground for Browt. On top of that, Light also says that Pokemon Winds and Waves‘ Ponbon will remain quadrupedal in its evolution line, lining up with exactly what fans want to see from it. That’s hope, at least, that it doesn’t become a bipedal dog creature. And these typings have a lot of fans excited. First off, a Fire/Fairy Pokemon is incredibly powerful with tons of STAB bonuses and defenses as opposed to a regular Pokemon:
- Fighting (STAB Bonus Against)
- Bug (STAB Bonus Against)
- Steel (STAB Bonus Against)
- Grass (STAB Bonus Against)
- Ice (STAB Bonus Against)
- Dragon (STAB Bonus Against)
- Dark (STAB Bonus Against)
-
Defenses:
- Poison (2x damage taken)
- Ground (2x damage taken)
- Rock (2x damage taken)
- Water (2x damage taken)
- Fighting (50% damage taken)
- Fire (50% damage taken)
- Grass (50% damage taken)
- Ice (50% damage taken)
- Dark (50% damage taken)
- Fairy (50% damage taken)
- Bug (25% damage taken)
- Dragon (no damage taken)

GameRant Quiz
Meanwhile, Browt as a Grass/Ground critter and one of Pokemon Winds and Waves‘ starters sounds like a fun design. As Twotter user @froggcitrus described, it sounds like a Grass/Ground Browt could end up with a similar design to a dodo bird and was “crying” because it seems like such a cool design. Not to mention, it would do a lot to differentiate Browt from Rowlet. Of the trio, it seems Gecqua has the least hype, but Water/Psychic is solid and it’ll be interesting to see how it evolves and reaches that stage.
It’s uncertain when fans will get a look at these new evolutions, as well as confirmation of the typing. After all, official Pokemon Winds and Waves news won’t take place until 2027, it is said, and they certainly won’t be revealed in the next trailer.
That said, the Pokemon Winds and Waves box art Legendary Pokemon could be in the next trailer. Whether that’s soon or 2027 is still up in the air, but every month is one day closer to that final form.
