GameStop updates its listing of Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time with a pre-order date before swiftly taking it down, and what’s more, it doesn’t appear to be a placeholder date or anything. Of course, until Nintendo announces something itself, Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time fans should take this information with a grain of salt.
Interestingly, both GameStop and Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time have been making headlines lately. The former is because CEO Ryan Cohen still wants to acquire eBay and combine it with GameStop, while Nintendo and Hasbro announced a new line of Legend of Zelda toys (with the first to be revealed at San Diego Comic-Con). It remains to be seen if the latter has anything to do with Ocarina of Time, however.
Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Pre-Orders May Open on August 4
GameStop updated its Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time listing with an August 4 pre-order date, meaning fans may be able to pre-order the game before that date is done. It may be that pre-orders open that morning or that night, or it could be that this date was unintentionally added. In short, the digital listing/placeholder page for the game on GameStop’s website was updated with an August 4 pre-order date before it was swiftly removed, as noticed by Reddit user Naive_Associate_15. The addition and removal before being widely noted, as well as the fact that most placeholder dates fall within certain logic (like being the end of a month/quarter), adds some legitimacy that this may have been an accidental leak on GameStop’s part.

August 4 being a Tuesday has also led some fans to hope that it corresponds with a dedicated 40th anniversary Legend of Zelda Direct to announce the pre-order date, hopefully showing more of the game in the process. Aside from a brief glimpse at the update graphics and updated model for Link, fans know very little about how much this remake changes. This new Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake could go fully open world, for one, or it could be more faithful to the original. It’s hard to say which, but given that it’s one of the highest rated games of all time, it’s hard to imagine it departing from the core elements easily.
On top of that, it’d be nice to hear a release date to go alongside this pre-order date, as many fans are also looking forward to the release of GTA 6 in November. There’s a real chance that Nintendo releases it in November given how booked September is, and it’s one of few games that could release in the GTA 6 splash zone and be largely unaffected. Still, it would not be surprising if it were to hit any of the fall/winter months this year.
The silver lining is that, whether this pre-order leak is legit or not, the Ocarina of Time remake is set to release in 2026. That means fans should learn more soon, especially as we barrel through the second half of the year.
