As July winds down, many gamers are already looking to August for new games. The same can be said of PlayStation Plus subscribers, as well as the service itself. Behind the scenes, of course, Sony and PlayStation are preparing/have prepared for a slate of new PS Plus games for August 2026.
As of this writing, PS Plus Extra only has four games left to add on July 28: Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Rita’s Rewind, Dying Light, Snow Bros. Wonderland, and Citizen Sleeper 2: Starward Vector. After that, the company will be full steam ahead on the reveal-release cadence for the PS Plus free games for August 2026, then the Extra and Premium games. Fans can expect the full Essential reveal on July 29 ahead of an August 4 addition, then they can expect an Extra/Premium reveal on August 12 before they are scattered throughout the month.
PS Plus Free Game for August 2026 (Confirmed): Big Walk

It’s worth noting that one of the PS Plus free games for August 2026 has already been confirmed, Big Walk, at the June 2026 State of Play. It’s a day-one co-op game addition to PS Plus, meaning plenty of players are likely to flock to it. For the uninitiated, Big Walk is a co-op adventure game from the creators of Untitled Goose Game where players work together to explore a massive open world, solve environmental puzzles, and uncover secrets without relying on traditional voice chat. It’s solid friendslop, or at least, it seems to be.

PS Plus Free Game for August 2026 – Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2
While new co-op games for PS Plus would be a great addition to the service, as that means more players on a single game, some folks won’t prefer to play co-op or may need a break afterward. A strong single-player game should be paired with a strong, guided single-player experience, and nothing comes to mind better than Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2. Not only have Xbox-published games appeared on the PS Plus service in recent months, but with how Xbox has sold Ninja Theory to a currently unknown financial backer, it’d be great to get even more eyes on Ninja Theory’s games. Big Walk is to relax; Hellblade 2 is to witness Senua’s struggles with psychosis in a 10th-century Iceland shaped by psychological horror.
PS Plus Free Game for August 2026: Atomfall
Hellblade 2 is a linear game, so a good third for it and a co-op game would still be something single-player but less structured than Hellblade 2. Atomfall is a good choice as one of the most open open-world games on PlayStation, where players engage in action-survival-oriented gameplay across smaller open-field-esque areas. What makes Atomfall stand out, though, is how there is pretty much no direction at all, really and truly putting the “open” in open world.
PS Plus Extra is always the hardest to choose because it adds so many high-quality games every month, even if Onimuisha: Dawn of Dreams is already confirmed for PS Plus Premium. It also sometimes double-dips, which means bringing back games like Darksiders Genesis (and others) would be welcome. The Plague Tale games would be a great addition ahead of the threequel, while Persona 5 Strikers would help round out the Persona 5 games available on PS Plus.
There’s also the competition play, as The Planet Crafter is on Xbox Game Pass, so perhaps it would want the open-world game on PS Plus Extra. While a game like Atomic Heart is just a simple inclusion. Really, whatever PlayStation pulls out for August ought to be a good addition as the gaming season slowly starts to pick up.
- Darksiders Genesis
- A Plague Tale: Innocence + A Plague Tale: Requiem
- Dragon Ball Z Kakarot
- Persona 5 Strikers
- The Planet Crafter
- Atomic Heart
- No PS Plus Premium game is included since Onimusha: Dawn of Dreams is confirmed for August 2026
