Xbox is finally getting a long-demanded feature for its Achievements system later this year, although new CEO Asha Sharma stopped short of announcing when exactly. It’s also worth mentioning that this is just the latest “player fulfillment” confirmation from Sharma who, since her appointment, has restructured the company and looked into fulfilling specific player requests via Xbox Player Voice. Cynics will say this is a distraction from the mass layoffs, which it almost certainly is to some degree.
Confirmation of this new feature came alongside a rollout of a new Xbox console update, which, among other details, gives users the ability to allow for voice chat in game captures, new ways to access achievements, allows for more control over cloud saves, and keeps more games on wish lists. Overall, it’s a solid update—even if this pales in comparison to a Platinum Trophy replacement.
Xbox Getting New ‘Platinum Trophy’ Achievements
As Xbox owners know, there’s nothing really “special” earned when getting all the achievements in a game other than bragging rights. The PlayStation ecosystem has Platinum Trophies, earned for gathering all other trophies, that feel like a reward in and of themselves. Xbox is not likely to do away with Gamerscore, but it’s going to add some kind of equivalent to Platinum trophies, Sharma has confirmed. When Twitter user @brandonww83 asked about the “Platinum trophy equivalent with Achievements,” Sharma responded with “Team is working on something for later this year!”
This confirmation is a surprise, but a welcome one, as it is perhaps one of the most consistently requested features over the years. It’s uncertain why it hasn’t been added already, but that’s neither here nor there. Fans can almost certainly expect that it won’t be called platinuming a game, but there will be some new reward for getting all of the achievements for a video game. It’s also uncertain how DLC achievements will factor in.
Sharma did confirm that the feature is coming in 2026, meaning fans can expect it within the next four months, so the wait for confirmation shouldn’t be too long. However, she stopped short of confirming when this year, so it may not happen until December. It’ll be interesting to see if the next-gen Xbox Helix console intends to improve on any of the software updates coming to Xbox Series X/S consoles or, if like the transition from Xbox One to Xbox Series X/S, Microsoft keeps the “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” model for its Xbox console software.

Of course, fans will only learn that when Microsoft gives the Xbox Helix console a proper world premiere, but even if the winter 2027 release date is true, that may not be too soon. Xbox prices, hardware, RAM, and various other issues in the industry, which affect all hardware makers, are still in flux, so it’s possible that Microsoft isn’t even 100% confident what Helix consoles look like in full.
