Grand Theft Auto 6‘s next update costs a minimum of $8.99 to see. Grand Theft Auto 6 is potentially the most highly-anticipated new video game release of all time. Considering the unprecedented hype behind GTA 6‘s release, it’s no surprise that Rockstar Games and parent company Take-Two Interactive are taking an unconventional approach when it comes to marketing the upcoming open world adventure.
GTA 6 was first announced in a simple blog post, with the first trailer coming well over a year later. GTA 6 Trailer 2 came over a year after the first trailer was released, and Rockstar has also released some screenshots and character descriptions for good measure. Take-Two promised that GTA 6 marketing would ramp up in the summer, and while that is finally happening, it’s proving to be a last-minute affair, and one that comes with some strings attached.
When is GTA 6 Extended Look on Netflix?

The first two GTA 6 trailers were released on YouTube completely free of charge. Fans interested in seeing the next big update on the game will have to pay a minimum of $8.99 for a Netflix subscription. Rockstar Games and Netflix have partnered to release an “Extended Look” at GTA 6 on August 27 at 3pm EST. More details on what the “Extended Look” will entail have yet to be revealed, but rumors indicate that the showcase will primarily be to show off GTA 6 gameplay features and will be somewhere between 20 and 30 minutes long. For fans that already have a Netflix subscription, watching the Extended Look on the platform will be no issue, but those without Netflix are likely upset at this move.

Netflix has over 325 million subscribers, and a large percentage of those individuals may not be quite as plugged in to the gaming world as those that have already secured their GTA 6 pre-orders. The idea is to put GTA 6 in front of people that may be more casually interested in the franchise, and considering that, the Netflix deal makes sense. It’s likely that the showcase will be pirated and released all over the internet shortly after it airs anyway, so fans shouldn’t be too stressed about missing out, even if it means that they can’t necessarily watch it live if they aren’t willing to pay the $8.99 for the cheapest tier of the streaming service.
If GTA 6‘s Netflix gamble pays off, it will be interesting to see if we see something similar happen with other gaming events moving forward. The Game Awards continues to draw more viewers every year, and one has to imagine that there’s a world where something like that could air on Netflix. Before Netflix decides to commit to too many more gaming projects, the execs will likely want to see how many viewers the GTA 6 Extended Look brings to the table first.
While its distribution is controversial, the Extended Look does bring fans one step closer to the long-awaited GTA 6 release date. Barring any last-minute delays, it does seem as though the GTA 6 November 19 release date is a lock, and so fans only have to wait a few more months to finally play the game for themselves.
