Final Fantasy 7’s Cloud Officially Returns on October 22 Ahead of Revelation

While many fans are looking forward to seeing Cloud and company in action with the release of Final Fantasy 7 Revelation in Spring 2027, those same fans have a chance to visit Cloud again ahead of then, with a brand-new release hitting on October 22. This should be considered one stop on the road for Final Fantasy 7 fans, though, as more will no doubt be revealed between now and Spring 2027.

That said, it’s not like Square Enix is keeping quiet on Final Fantasy 7 Revelation. The director recently discussed everything from the size of the open-world game to changes coming to Final Fantasy 7 Revelation after Rebirth‘s release, which likely means there’s still plenty under the hood for upcoming showcases and events. Still, FF7 fans should mark their calendars for October 22, 2026.

A new Final Fantasy 14 bug discovered by some players may be a sign of a feature that could arrive during the upcoming Evercold expansion.

Cloud Strife is a Vision in Final Fantasy Resonance

The new Final Fantasy game, Final Fantasy Resonance, is set to release on October 22 and features Cloud Strife in the game, with Square Enix showcasing his Vision in a brand-new trailer (seen above). For those unfamiliar, Final Fantasy Resonance is an HD-2D pixel art game that reimagines the story of Final Fantasy Brave Exvius, while introducing a unique script, overworld, and mechanics for a cohesive single-player game. It launches on PC, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S consoles on October 22, heralding Cloud’s return to gaming.

One of the HD-2D game’s mechanics is called Visions, which lets players essentially summon characters and heroes from past games (including a roster of unique ones from FF Brave Exvius). Most games have one representative, with Cloud Strife representing the protagonists of Final Fantasy 7, but it’s also confirmed that Sephiroth is a Vision for Final Fantasy Resonance. In other words, both the main protagonist and antagonist of Final Fantasy 7 Revelation will make an appearance on October 22.

Final Fantasy Resonance Rain Speaking (1)

There are confirmed to be 26 Visions in Final Fantasy Resonance, with most of those characters being protagonists of the Final Fantasy franchise. It includes classic characters like the original Warrior of Light and Cecil to the more recent (and broody) protagonists Noctis and Clive. In some cases, there are key components of that character returning, with FF13‘s Lightning seen mounting Odin for example. Square Enix still has plenty to show of the game ahead of its October release date, but its unique art style and the return of these characters as summons is exciting.

Of course, Final Fantasy Resonance is a spin-off that explores the idea of the franchise’s entry into the HD-2D realm, so its depiction of Cloud and Sephiroth will be more limited than their center stage performance in Final Fantasy 7 Revelation. On that front, Square Enix has even more to show, with FF7 Revelation only having a Spring 2027 release date confirmed as of this writing. Hopefully that changes into a concrete date by the end of the year, but at least FF Resonance can help fans bide time until its official release.
