Disgruntled PlayStation fans are organizing a boycott of the Sony gaming brand’s online services, asking participants to not use their PlayStation consoles for a full week. The boycott is in protest of Sony’s recent decision to phase out physical discs for PlayStation consoles starting in 2028.
A growing group of angry PlayStation fans is staging a boycott of Sony’s gaming services during the last week of August. The boycott officially began on August 23 and asks participating users to either log out of PlayStation services or keep their consoles turned off entirely until August 30. The blackout also includes refraining from any purchases on the PlayStation Store during the specified timeframe, with some fans even suggesting greater measures like mass cancellation of PlayStation Plus subscriptions. The boycott is intended to send a message about fans’ disapproval of Sony’s decision to officially stop producing physical discs for PlayStation consoles, beginning in January 2028.
